I follow you perfectly untill you said ip adress of MQTT server? What is a MQTT server? Do I have it or do I buy it?
@SlackerLabs4 ай бұрын
It a server than can help link some devices to home assistant. The easiest solution is to install the mqtt add on in home assistant. No cost. It just enables more things to connect to home assistant.

Happy thanksgiving! I will try to get a video out tomorrow talking about some Black Friday deals.

Thank you. Although there's a newer version apparently. It still works.

You can just connect it directly to the Apple TV hub or zigbee or z wave?

Thanks for such a thorough explanation 😊 Super nice 🔥

Great video. For me all looks good in the flic SDK where I see the buttons. In HomeAssistant the MQTT Logbook says within seconds that the State, Button, Connectivity, etc, became unknown or disconnected. Any help

That's a no for me if I need another hub.
@flicsmartbutton Жыл бұрын
You don't need a Hub to be able to use the Flic Button. The Hub gives you the flexibility to trigger your home automation without the need to have the phone always by your side, so everyone in your house can trigger it even if you are not home. The Hub is recommended to have a better range and for more advanced automations.

I didn't realize Flic buttons were apparently divisive. I have a bit of a button obsession, and I have tons from several different companies including Flic, Aqara, Sonoff, Aotec, Moes/Tuya, and more. Flic is by far my favorite and most reliable. They are small, attractive, reliable (with hub or directly connected to my phone via BT), and have a VERY satisfying click. I've been triggering HA automations and scripts via HomeKit, but I'll definite try this HA integration and see if that tidies things up for me. Thanks!

Man everything is divisive in smart home. Haha

@@SlackerLabs Finally had time to work on this last night. Got it all set up, and it's working perfectly. I had just factory reset my Flic Hub, so I added one button and then did the MQTT setup. Once I saw the button pop up in HA, I added more buttons to the hub, and they all immediately popped up on HA. Very cool. I created an automation just like yours for the first Flic button, and then just duplicated that as a pseudo-blueprint for myself. This is a great way to do it, as it only gives me a single automation for each button instead of cluttering up my automation list with three separate automations per Flic action. I was also happy to see that button actions can work in both HA and HomeKit at the same time. For example, I have one in my kitchen that I double click to trigger my go-to-bed HA automation, which shuts down everything I want turned off for the night, AND ALSO set my Ring security system to "Home and Armed" mode. I can't get HA to set Ring alarm modes, so I do that via HomeKit and HomeBridge. I shared that Flic button to HomeKit and assigned the double-click action there to set the alarm to Home. I also have HA MQTT watching for that same button's double click to run the bedtime automation in HA. Double clicking the button triggers both at the same time, which is cool. I figured HA and HomeKit would fight over which one gets to use the button, but instead, HA, Flic, and HomeKit are all working brilliantly together sharing the button. Love it. Thanks for the push I needed to take my first dive into MQTT! Edit: Since this was my first step into MQTT, I had to do a little extra work. Lewis at Everything Smart Home has a great tutorial for first-time setup that I followed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqK3n2B9oJmEm9E.

I don‘t follow.: who would spend $100 for 3 Buttons and a mini Hub if you can get for example an Aqara Button for less than 15? There is nothing I can see, that would tempt me to try Flic
@jmr Жыл бұрын
Normies that impulse buy. AND The one cool feature flic has(twist) doesn't work locally with Home Assistant.
@SlackerLabs Жыл бұрын
I stopped trying to figure out why people make decisions a long time ago so I can't help you there. All I know is there are people they buy them based on how many questions I got on how to connect them home assistant directly without using web hooks. The purpose of this video was to show that.
@brianh.4185 Жыл бұрын
Given that Aqara devices are junk, I don’t find the argument for Aqara very compelling. Definitely don’t need another hub though.
@wilhelmspeck5870 Жыл бұрын
@@brianh.4185 Well If you think so. I have nearly all my zigbee devices manufactured by Aqara and ikea using a Sonoff stick, zigbee2mqtt in HA and don‘t have any problems with them.

Great video and very useful. I would love to get this to work, but all I get is: 'Error' event Error: Crashed at [anon] (root/MQTT/main.js:227) preventsyield I briefly got connection but after that it never works. If anyone has any ideas, they would be greatly received.

If you had done a video on black friday deals in general, I'd be ok with that. But an 8.5 minute ad for flick, not cool, defenitly gets you a downvote.
