THANK YOU for this! Couple tips for anyone struggling... I was super confused that when I would populate my calendar.yaml, it would break the calendar entity and I could not get more than one entity to show up! I also had the .yaml from an old version already and it took a bit to figure out I should fully clear it out first. I didn't realize they would only show up under Developer Tools! I gave it a unique name like suggested and then removed the original entity within Google Calendar integration. I wasted a lot of time on offset until realizing it needs to be in the calendar event name not just the .yaml - not gunna work for me but not a deal breaker.

I am not 100% sure of this big focus on Voice Assistants. I guess they can be good for annoucnements, but I see a voice assistant that you talk to as being nothing more than a glorified remote control, not really what a truly smart home should be. A smart home should be intelligent enough to do the stuff for you, seamlessly with well designed automations.

Thank you for this. Very helpful. You mentioned a couple of times that it will be possible to have different pipelines based on the Wake word. Is that possible now, or is it just outside the scope of this video?
@SlackerLabs

Not possible now. But maybe in the future...

There is a way to do it, but it's hackish and hard to set up. You need to run two instances of wyoming-satellite on each satellite device, plus two instances of wyoming-openwakeword (I run this locally on the RPi). Also, you need to make sure that you're using pulseaudio for the wyoming-satellite so that the two instances can share the same sound devices. Oh, and each instance needs to be running on a different port.
@davidhite1868
@davidhite1868 4 күн бұрын
@@johnh3ss that's too bad. I wonder if it would be possible to run wake word processing on something like an RPI 2 and direct output to different pipelines from there.
@johnh3ss
@johnh3ss 4 күн бұрын
@@davidhite1868 That's possible. I have an OrangePi 3 LTS right now running dual instances of both wyoming-satellite and wyoming-openwakeword. One answers to "Ok GLaDOS" and talks with a GLaDOS voice, and the other answers to "Hey Jarvis" and talks with a nice British accent. These are two separate pipelines in my Home Assistant.

I installed PicoTTS for text to speech a long time ago, and think it sounds reasonable for a local solution. I assume that it could be used in place of Piper, or does everything have to support the Wyoming protocol for the assist pipeline to work?

So when you're home, you want to be notified of a water leak, but if you're not at home you want to remain blissfully ignorant until you get home? 😬 Relatively basic when, if, do is pretty comprehensible. It gets a lot weirder if you need to do anything more advanced. I work with computers and HA and automation logic still makes me feel like someone should be paying me to do this work - at home. 😀
@SlackerLabs
@SlackerLabs 4 күн бұрын
Yea. I tend to only want actionable notifications. And when we are not home a leak is not something I can do anything about.

@@SlackerLabs I'd especially want it if not at home, so I can properly panic and hurry home to turn the water off.

HA does make things painful sometimes. Setting a normal delay after an action should be tracked between restarts. That way all you'd need to do is trigger on something, put a 5 minute delay, and then shut whatever it is off even if HA had been down between start and stop. Near as I can figure, if I want to set a timer to stop something I'll need two automation. One to turn unit X on at, say, 7 am, and then a version of this one that triggers on it turning on and starts counting down to shut it back off. Oh, and HA seems to still be in rapid change mode, a number of these things aren't named the same just a year ago. Service isn't a name in there anymore (though the functionality is the same).

If you have a server with a powerful GPU, you can take it one step further, and add a local LLM (AI like ChatGPT) using Ollama. I'm running a setup like that and it's amazing. In my case I used a TTS that sounds like GLaDOS (wyoming-glados on Github) and a custom "Ok, GLaDOS" wakeword model. I also added some verbiage about using the personality of GLaDOS in my LLM system prompt, so it is occasionally sarcastic and vaguely threatening when answering me, lol. If you have a big enough LLM that can use tools (I use Qwen2.5 14b) and a big context window (I use 32k tokens) it can easily control and read info from almost any HA entity you throw at it.

Never owned Amazon or Google stuff. No trust. For me, practical voice assistant is limited. Most of the time I can hit the light switch or tap on a tablet or such do do stuff. Now and then when I am in an awkward spot and need the light on, it will come in handy. Instead of having to crawl or whatever to get to the switch, tablet or whatever, just speak to have it turn on.

Home Assistant time triggering is the most annoying and complex thing ever. Why can't i just simply select weekdays and times as a trigger?? That is almost impossible to do, but so basic automation like i want to do something on weekdays at 7 am and at weekends at 8 am, and also want my automation to work if i press a physical button... That shouldnt be that complex...

Hey Jeff you are the script master, thankyou for this great video. i want to set up something nice, maybe you can help me, because i need only one thing to finish it. I want to dissable the wakeword in some situations to take a normal conversation with the assist(jarvis). So my question. Do you know a way how it is possible to know when is the answer from the pipeline/assist is over? So for example... i am saying: hey jarvis(wakeword) how is the weather today. Then the assist gives the answer. AND WHEN this is finished i want to activate the microphone to listen again without a wakeword. SO HOW can i notice when the message from the assist is over? I send the answers to an amazon echo and unfortunately the status from the echo didnt changing when he is playing a assist message. Thankyou Addition: i am using an esp32 as a mic and send the input to nabu cloud assist and the speake is a alexa echo dot.

I've been fighting with home assistant for almost two years now. I find that the dev team seems to be focused on commercial IOT devices and AI and way less on DIY IOT gizmos. I get that most don't want to build their own, but many of us do. I probably spend 4hrs a week just keeping my devices connected to HA. ESPHome/Tasmota and the like have lost their luster I guess. It is very aggravating to find that the devices are working as designed and only HA seems to have lost its mind. :rant off: I do appreciate your channel and the great content.

This works perfectly fine with the Aqara Hub M3 (EU version, currently newest), too... Thanks so incredibly much for the explanation! This really made my month tbh, as I had already given up on the hope to control all devices connected to my Aqara M3 Hub - but it works exactly as you showed it without having to re-configure or factory-reset anything. ❤
