From The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy comes THE HAUNTING OF BLY MANOR, the next highly anticipated chapter of The Haunting anthology series, set in 1980s England. After an au pair’s tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate’s chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose (T’Nia Miller). But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn’t mean gone.
Producing partners Flanagan and Macy drew from the iconic supernatural stories of Henry James, to create the ensemble drama which also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Tahirah Sharif. The series is executive produced by Flanagan and Macy for Intrepid Pictures, along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey for Amblin Television.

When Dani trips over the Viola doll on the floor, it might be foreshadowing but it means she is no longer in the lake and is out wandering. Hence why the kids lock Dani in the closet so that she doesnt get in Viola's way
@MyMarsham

That’s what they were doing. If you watch, after Dani picks the doll up, suddenly Flora is bolt upright staring at her, and then Miles appears behind. You see Flora look at Miles and give the very slightest nod, at which point he starts asking about the fan in the cupboard. So yeah, they knew the Lady was out walking, and stopped Dani getting in her way.

The Dani and the Doll one is wrong. When she stumbles into the doll, it's because the lady of the lake is on her way to the house. That's why the kids lock her in the closet. Otherwise, she'd be in the hallway when the lady of the lake gets inside.

@Arisbey Lopez Rivera The gardener and chef don't live there. Henry Thomas' character (can't remember his name) said they live in town, so they would be gone by the time she came into the house. Also, I saw a comment on another video saying that the dolls were moved around by the little doll face ghost because I guess he knew where all the other ghosts were at any given time. So he probably told Flora and Miles about her, which is why they never got in her way. You would think their parents would have at some point, but I guess not. When Flora says “I’m too old, the math doesn’t work” when she realizes she’s being tucked away, it’s also about how she’s too old to be Dominic’s child. That got me thinking because Flora might also know about her mom’s relationship with Henry (she saw him getting dressed in Charlotte’s room) and it would be a great pain if she realizes she’s the child from a love affair.

But she later also eats when she cooks a fav meal for Owen Sharma while he was returning from his mom's last rituals. In one of the explanation it is said that she never had accepted her death until the very last episode and is the reason why she was stuck in between and was always seen to humans as well. In the last episode she accepts her death and then she suddenly starts fainting as now she is not stuck in her mind and becomes completely a ghost.

I thought it was pretty cool that Dani’s ex fiancé has those torch like eyes. I always wondered what this thing was that was haunting her, but we would later learn that it is exactly how he looked when he was killed with the oncoming vehicles lights reflecting in his glasses! I can’t remember if she saw him killed from the car window or in one of the cars mirrors? But I’m guessing she witnessed it from a rear view or door mirror hence why he only appears to her in the presence of a mirror.

None. She saw him get killed through the open door. It happened next to her when he open the door and got out, no mirror involved. Maybe that's just how the ghost appear to her. Remember Peter would sometimes appear to her through the window reflection and viola would appear in any reflection

Agreeded there was a few annoying loose ends. In relation to the ex fiancé though I personally saw it as he kept haunting her because she hadn’t accepted she was gay and wasn’t ready to move on with her life. When she went to dump him she might have known on some level she was gay but his death kept her further in the closet and she had to live a lie with everyone - not telling them she was breaking up with him and probably feeling responsible for his death. I think the reason we see him show up when she kisses Jamie (the only time we see him without a mirror I think) is because internally she panics about doing something which show she’s gay and on some level wants to cling on to being straight + her past. When she accepts she’s gay and loves Jamie she’s able to move on from her past and stop being haunted by him. To me it was a really beautiful representation of compulsory heterosexuality and realising and accepting your sexuality.

Her ex's ghost is also a metaphor for her grief and guilt over breaking his heart. When he no longer haunts it's because she's finally moved on. Quint was just a horrible person. It's normal for kids to repress traumatic memories.

Bly Manor was very interesting. The energy in the house, Viola's energy, was very jealous of the lovers. She prevented her sister from jump from getting with the man she then married in her face and even when she was dying she wouldn't allow her sister to hook up with him and after that, when they did she haunted them. Peter and Rebecca (good bad or ugly) were the freeist lovers in that house but when Peter tried to run away to America, Viola killed him. She wasn't about to let them love each other. All the other people in the house were envious of how free they were able to love each other. Hannah because she never could muster up the courage to let the cook love her. Dani because she was deep in the closet and racked with guilt about her ex fiancée and couldn't let the gardener love her. The Gardner was hatin' Peter and Rebecca for the same reason, they could love with abandon. Also, isn't weird how the Uncle looks like Viola's widow husband who married her sister? Those two souls met up again to love in secret. Good story.

The music box that belonged to Flora and Miles' mother had the song O Willow Walt on it. If Viola sang it to the child she took into the lake does that mean she either or possessed the mother who chose a music box with the same song? Also the music box references the 1981 film The Changeling in which a composer moves into a haunted mansion and starts working on a piano composition. One thing everyone seems to have missed is how, when Dani and Edmund are kids and Edmund shows Dani his new glasses he says, "Mom says they make me look extinguished," foreshadowing his ghostly appearances to Dani after his tragic death where the glowing glasses are his ghost's most defining characteristic. Also, once Dani destroys the glasses Edmund no longer appears to her. Almost as if it really was, quite literally, the glasses that made him appear dead or "extinguished".

the house was only a summer estate, so it wasn't really their main house and they didn't stay in the house often, up until it became the main residence for Miles and Flora after they died. The show also mentioned indirectly that the lady of the lake only awakens and does her routine at certain periods of the year so it's most likely that the Wingrave parents never encountered the lady of the lake during the summer months.

Warning this Spoiler I have a thesis. The reason the governess can solve the curse with a few words is that the curse is set up with a few words. I think when Viola first said these words to her daughter, it was not a curse of course, but a talisman was formed. This talisman symbolizes the viola's devotion to her daughter. Just like his devotion to life, he was very attached to the daughter. This talisman found a material space when the viola got sick and finally gave up life, the thing she loved in life, and hid it in a chest for her daughter. Because the viola had gone through everything. She lived for only one daughter, and this talisman would bring her together. I don't think you did this on purpose. He was surprised when he woke up at the ballot box. When the superstitious husband of Viola threw the thought into the lake, it prevented this reunion, so the talisman turned into a curse. It turned into an energy in the ark and caged Bly Maner this ballot box . It was the energy of the chest, the amulet and the viola that did not take the dead out of there. Again, with the same words, the lock of this curse, the chest, was broken. All the energy is trapped inside the Governess. Then I say, you, we , us.

She's 8 at the start of the series (making it 9 years) The third time is the last scene, when Jamie brings home a file of civil union (like a predecessor of gay marriage) which was legalized in Vermont in 2000.
