Green is often used by Disney with their villains (scar , maleficent and mother gothel all have green lighting /motifs around them and in their respective films they’re from ) and so it’s an interesting choice to give Bruno green too - it makes the audience side with abuela for a little while because of the preconceived connection that green = Disney villian

Bruno’s incoherent mumbling when we first meet him are actually charms to ward off bad luck. There’s a practice of throwing a pinch of salt over your right shoulder to ward off back luck, and he knocks on wood for a similar reason. All to show just how superstitious he is. So, I don’t really see how this connects to Frozen’s “Let it Go” other than he actually says the words.

There's actually another Easter egg I came across on Twitter: when Bruno offers Maribel something to watch on "tv", the slide for sports is from Colombia's last knockout game in 1990's FIFA world cup against Germany. Colombia managed to score an equalizer at the 90th minute and moved on to the round of 16. That goal was a huge deal back then.

I don't think Brunos vision was showing multiple paths. I think he THOUGHT it was multiple paths, but it actually was showing that the house/family would break and then come back together, all with Mirabel at the center. I took her connecting with her sisters to start the path to family reconstruction. That's why her hug with Isabella was part of the vision.
@abbys36423 жыл бұрын
Has anyone mentioned how marabels magic is the house? Each character has shapes that go along with their room door. Mirabel doesn’t get a door, but she has butterflies and the entire house is filled with butterflies. The house only gets really broken when she feels broken and disconnected from her family.
@catnamedcassie3 жыл бұрын
I agree! the vibe I got was that she could enhance/take away the others powers? for example when she helped Isabella grow so any different things, and when Luisa’s power was going away due to Mirabel’s actions, and her fighting with her abuela is what caused the house to break and the light to go out, but Mirabel was also the one to bring the magic back on the end
@nemisyne3 жыл бұрын
I really disagree. The entire family was broken when the house broke, not just Mirabel. If she had a power, she would have her own room with stuff related to it on the door and the door would be glowing. The room she sleeps in is not her room, it's the nursery. It was Antonio's room too until he got his power. The reason Mirabel has no power is because she is a foil for her Abuela, the other character with no magical gift. But just because they are lacking a magical power doesn't mean they are powerless. Both of them influence the rest of the family in ways that affect them all deep down. Mirabel will be the next matriarch to usher in the new generations of their magical family and I love that she doesn't have a magical gift. It shows that just because you might not be special, you are still important. You can still do a lot. To shoehorn a gift in or to pretend she had one all along diminishes that message severely.

I've watched the movie for the second time and the theory that people said about the candle's power transferring to Mirabel actually made sense. If you have noticed, Mirabel's feelings affect Casita and also the candle. She was also the only one who saw the cracks appearing in Casita. She also possessed some of the family gifts in a different way without literally showing it as a power. If Pepa can affect the weather by her emotions, Mirabel can affect the candle - that can even lead to destruction of Casita. If Julieta can heal any injured person, Mirabel heals her family - including Abuela. If Isabela can design using flowers, Mirabel designs her own clothes. If Luisa is strong, Mirabel is brave especially when she tried to look for Bruno. If Bruno can predict the future, she was able to predict Antonio's gift by giving her a tiger plushie. Mirabel was actually the next 'candle' since the candle didn't appear in the end and it was Mirabel who was able to restore Casita and everyone's gift. I think the reason why the candle didn't appear in the end because Abuela didn't need it anymore and she was able to move on from Abuelo's death but still with Mirabel's bloodline, their gift will still be passed on to the next Madrigals. Also, the letter 'M' in the doorknob at the ending scene could mean Mirabel, Miracle and Madrigal

The green used for Bruno’s “power on” eyes and Mirabel’s glasses is not just any old green. That’s that special lime green shade Disney almost always associates with their Villains, and serves as a kind of hint towards their tendency to not only be, well, villains with magical power or evil influence, but also immediately clues the audience in that this character is an outcast of sorts, someone different from the people around them who isn’t fully accepted. Mirabel only has it on her glasses and a few small elements on her skirt and it’s off-set by the rainbow of other colors on her clothes, but she definitely matches that second criteria for the color association. As for Bruno, green is definitely his motif and he’s really the only character associated with the color, but his outfit consists of darker greens overall and the lime shade only shows up when he’s using his gift OR when Camilo is imitating him during the song (and when Bruno is sneaking along the second floor while Dolores is singing about him). It’s also the color of his crystallized visions. Bruno is perceived as a villain of sorts and definitely an outcast by the town as a whole, but closer inspection reveals that he actually isn’t like that. It’s a visual hint that broadcasts his role in the movie as soon as we see him for the first time, but one that also transitions from that Villain Green (town painting in “Family Madrigal,” shards and Camilo) to his darker greens (Bruno himself).

Easter egg During the song we don't talk about Bruno, you can see Bruno's figure bopping in the balcony while Dolores is rapping Also the white in Antonio outfit might be an homage to communions bc people typically wear white Theory I speculate that Bruno might have ocd because we see him commit actions frequently (randomly) like saying rambles and throwing salt( which has much superstitious connotation ) . A symptom of ocd is that people commit actions like constantly touching the wall because they believe if they don't touch the wall something bad will happen. This is also why Bruno stopped using his power bc the town folk started to believe that his Prophecies would definitely come true once he spoke it. Ergo he stopped with the prophecies

But then I couldn't stop thinking about the different characters, and finally I watched the movie again. And still couldn't stop thinking about it, and slowly it has grown to be one of my favourite Disney movies. It isn't flashy, it isn't very dramatic, it doesn't have brave heroes and terrible villains. 2:32 the colours reflects people from several parts of the country: Mirabel´s sisters and parents are from high altitude regions, where cold temperatures are a constant (just like autumm/winter) while aunt Pepa and family comes from lower regions with higher temperatures (spring/summer) and this is all year long! The only seasons there are rainy season and dry season (2 of them each year) with several variations. Furthermore, Mirabel´s dad is a clear depiction of a "Cachaco", that´s how a man from Bogota (Colombia´s capital) is usually called due to wearing long sleeves shirt (CAmisa in spanish), a vest (CHAleco in spanish) and tie (Corbata in spanish). Bogotá is located more than 6700 feet above sea level!!

I’ll tell you what, if you guys think she’s SO GREAT, knowing the fact that the house is gifted and that her whole family is gifted too, BUT HERE’S THE THING!!!!!!! She knows that she doesn’t have a gift and loves her family either way but her whole family has gifts but don’t love her. So if she knows this then why doesn’t she leave her family, like she knows she’s basically useless and has no gift, so instead of trying to help out the family she should have left in the first place. She’s pretty much A DISGRACE to the family because she doesn’t have a gift and not appreciated by her family.

My favourite character is Luisa because I relate to her a lot (also she's just lovable). She has to be the strong one who doesn't show weakness and it's making her fall apart on the inside. She secretly has a soft side and enjoys "girly" things. She is strong and dependable, but also an anxious mess on the inside and is afraid that people won't love her if she is not being useful. Which is how our society is built, basically, to make people feel inferior if they're not being perceived as "useful"

I feel for Louisa too. I wish I'd had a Mirabel earlier, but didn't get to relax until I was 30 and by then... well I had done a lot of damage to myself. But now I know not to take on so much, and those around me know not to do it to me. My husband and I both had families do that to us and heard the song at different times, but it was impactful. She is my favorite and I truly hope she is given a little slack. This is one of the few movies where I want a sequel because the story isn't done. Louisa needs two things: a chance to be herself, and to be seen as a woman. She doesn't have to "get a man" but it would be nice for a woman who looks like her to be seen as desirable. She is large, strong, and not as conventionally "pretty" as all her sisters and cousins.

Isabella character with me always felt that I had to be perfect as no one in my family thought I could make mistakes, Luisa held the weight on her shoulder as I always felt I had to much on my plate, maribel feeling like the black sheep to the family I always felt like I didn't belong, the aunt with rain shadowing over her made me think about how we feel when depress especially with how the pandemic made us all feel, maribel mom healing with food, what mother never said " eat it will make you feel better", out of curiosity what is the abuela gift or is does she get a door because that's where it started? Mirabel's dress is indeed interesting. Although it might be by chance, she reminds me so much of Prilla from the Fairies franchise. In the original novels. Prilla didn't get a "talent", but she was be able to save Neverland, when all fairies started to lose their "magic"; and she could save it because she can communicate with mainland children (which she would do again and again in kind of visions in the story) and inspire them to believe in fairies. This was her unique gift. And she would also become a honorary member of all other fairy talents; and there was also once a story in which her "talent dress" included symbols from all other fairy talents. And one of her symbols was also the butterfly. I always longed for a movie adaption closer to the original franchise than the eventual TinkerBell movies; and I think that it might be now done with Mirabel....

I disagree with the Hercules reference. While yes Disney made their own adaptation...it's just Hercules. Luisa has amazing strength that the house blessed her with, in the story of Hercules, he's the son of Zeus (not Hera for the original story, only connection he has to her is that he's named by his MORTAL mother in honor of Hera so that she doesn't possibly kill him while he's a child) who is the king of gods, that's why he has amazing strength. The reason why in Luisa's song the mention of Hercules is brought up is because they were seen as heroes for their cities/towns. There is no correlation to the movie at all. If disney wanted an easter egg to their movie "Hercules" then they would have made the model look more like the design they had for their Hercules, the one shown in Encanto is just what Hercules may have looked like back in ancient Greece. It's a great comparison but not a reference.

Theory : When we see Maribel about to get her gift she grabs the candles and wipes herself off with her dress then grabs her door. BUT when we see Antonio about to get his gift he grabs the candles then grabs the door; if you don’t understand my theory is that when Maribel wipes herself with her dress, I think she wiped off the magic; since it looks like in order to get your power you have to grab the candle then open the door.

I believe the Casita also represents everyone in the house that has a gift, specifically Luisa and Isabella. When Mirabel enters inside Bruno's hideout and is chasing Bruno the house is unresponsive as she calls for Casita and does not move like it does in the outside. I feel like this relates to how Luisa is always going to be known as the "Strong Older Sister" always willing to work her hardest but in the inside she feels as if she must take in every burden and must push herself more to be the best but she does not reveal that until her song comes to play. Same with Isabella when she finally reveals her feelings that seemed to be "abnormal" but is an emotion she wants to reveal instead of being the perfect golden child.

Actually, Abuela Alma’s brooch is a chatelaine. It’s a keychain that was popular during the Victorian era for the woman of the house to wear on their belt. The butterfly is a recorrent theme representing the inner transformations that the family needed to pass through to understand the "weird" members, such as Bruno and Mirabel, and also embrace that the family shouldn't be only one thing, such as strong and perfect, as Luisa and Isabela, respectively, but also let them do their own thing. Since Mirabel represents this change, she kinda is the heir of Abuela, been the one that give the casita magic again. I got to this conclusion since abuela dont have powers of their own, and the similarity between the two of them in their desire of keeping the family together, as wel as protecting them from harm.

I haven't really seen anybody mention it, but Isabela mostly resembles Abuela both physically and personality wise. Both attempts to maintain a facade of everything's perfect and fine. This facade however, seems to splinters when it comes to Maribel and they both treat her harshly. The house reflect the family's internal state, but the strongest connection seems to be with Abuela and Maribel, hence it is there argument that causes it to break. There is a theory that Maribel is meant to be the next house leader after Abuela, and this supported by her having a much closer relationship to the Casita, her ability to make each character vurenable and that "she was sent by grandfather". Plus the butterfly and candle symbolism on her dress.

Bruno mentioned of two sisters hugging it out could resolve it. I thought maybe it was also a Frozen reference since sisterly love fixed everything.
@williamjose39963 жыл бұрын
Actually i think that, since we can't see who Mirabel is hugging at the first time it was fer Abuela, hence the butterfly in the river. But also is a hug on Isabela, since Mirabel being the one powerless Madrigal child always have underestimated herself when compared to her sisters. So, she needed to fix the family cracks to fix the miracle itself. Since she have already spoken with Luisa before the vision of the hug, she only needed to make amends with Isabela. But, as predicted by the vision, she also needed to apologize to her Abuela and the way she saw the family. Actually this fits a theory of my own, that the mountain split in two halves represents the conflicting opinions of Mirabel and Abuela.

My favorites: Dolores, Camilo, Antonio, and Bruno. Though I also loved Mirabel, Luisa, and all the parents. Isabela and Abuela were my least, but I still like and empathize with them.

Also the first song introduces all the characters just like in Lin’s musical Hamilton introduces all the main characters.

Did anyone spot Bruno lurking around during the "We Don't Talk About Bruno" song when Dolores sing?

Tbh I think it's Camillo since his part comes next and if I was living hiding in the walls of my family's home, I wouldn't go out in the middle of the day

@@Pinkfifi3 I personally think it’s Bruno since you can tell that Dolores can hear him and pulls Mirabel away from that direction while looking behind her to see where he is

This is different, look when Delores dances with Mirabel look at the back ground you will see a cloak figure dance and run.............................. Bruno

I like how the phrase “open your eyes” was repeated at least 3 times in the movie, reinforcing the message about perception.

I also noticed that, when Mirabel gets into Bruno's room, she is actually having a short conversation with one of Antonio's birds. But I've never seen anyone noticing that she could talk to animals too
