That certainly looks like more than side play in bearings. I’m not a full-size helo pilot, but that looks very similar to tracking issues I’ve had with some classic rc helos. I’d be significantly worried about the airframe loads that vibration is causing. Hope you solve it!

I have balanced the rotors 3 times very small adjustments. I think the stick movement is bearings that I loosened too much on initial install i'm working on those now.

Neither. In the late 70s, 80s, and early 90s there was an aircraft called the SH-2F Seasprite. That's what I flew. LAMPS Mk 1
@MakeLifeExtraordinary Жыл бұрын
The mini copter looks awesome to fly around in. The view you can get from them huge windows and open canopy is just amazing. Do you need a pilots license for those? I’m asking, because I’m not sure if they are considered more a personal craft or not. you pick them up for? I’d be very interested to get one of these. How much flight time do you get on a tank of gas? Thank you and love the videos.
@FlyNavy Жыл бұрын
There is one version, the XEL, that is an ultralight and doesn't require a license. But even for that one, I would recommend at least getting to a solo endorsement in helos. All others require at least a PPL. With the turbine and 20 gal total fuel, you get about 1.5 hours. It burns a little under 12.5 gph. My version with the turbine engine is about $75k with every option. I think starters with reciprocating engines run about $35k.
@The_ZeroLine Жыл бұрын
The XEL seems to lack enough power to be anything but a novelty.
@FlyNavy Жыл бұрын
A novelty is a bit strong, but it is limited by fuel/ distance and the engine. But it was built for the ultralight class. Stick any helo in something with those limitations and it is what it is.

@deanmiles35052 жыл бұрын
That seems like a lot of vibration in the cyclic. Did the factory balance the blades? Tracking would be second to check. It's just my opinion but you could start there. You should check all the linkages too for bearing issues. I hope this helps... I wouldn't fly it until you figure it out. Good luck. Thank you for sharing your video. Take care, Be safe
@barrymcclaughry92292 жыл бұрын
He said main rotor pitch change links have 3 out of 4 bad bearings. Think I'd be fixing that before another video
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
I didn't say they were bad. But they did have some play. I have replaced all 4 and they reduced the vibration. I'm thinking about pulling the head and the control path and checking all the bearings.
@lavauxmusic24792 жыл бұрын
Damn, that`s a lot of feedback on your cyclic channel. At certain parts of the video, it looks like you have vertical vibration issue 1/1 (track of the main rotor blades) I would recommend checking the cyclic channel from a to b again, pay special attention for both axial and radial play at rod ends, bell cranks etc.. then performing track and balance check.
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
I know. Some don't read previous posts. That is my plan for this winter. I'm pulling the whole control path and replacing bearings. Then I'll have to redo lead/lag and tracking.

What was your primary reason for building the XET compared to the XE285? Was the turbine easy to obtain?
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
Turbine was hard to find. I couldn't find one and let the factory find it for me. All my time(25 years ago) was in turbine so I was intimidated to learn throttle control while trying to remember how to fly. And the turbine sounded way cooler!
@Ms_Princess_Zelda2 жыл бұрын
@@FlyNavy logging turbine time also is a big plus in rotorcraft. I have over 1000h and still only 1.1 turbine :( I'd love to have one of these one day tbh
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
I understand that to be the case. I have about 2k hours and all of it is turbine. But I'm not building time for a job. I just like the performance and sound.

@FlyNavy Жыл бұрын

@FPD1948 ай бұрын
Just found your videos, thank you for a great flight! May be a stupid question, but are you required to have a roto wing license to fly this aircraft? Maybe a better question, what type of training should you have to fly this copter? Does it burn Avgas or regular fuel? Sorry for all of the questions, your video really peaked my interest. Thank you again.
@FlyNavy8 ай бұрын
For 3 of the 4 Mosquitos, you need at least a PPL. But you also should have enough helo hours to solo. It's not safe otherwise. For the XEL, no license is required, but again, you should at least have enough instruction to solo. I've seen more than 1 new owner who has rolled it into a ball in the first 60 seconds because they thought a PPL or Microsoft Flight Simulator was enough. 3 of the versions are gas and one version, like mine, is a turbine and I use jet A.
@FPD1948 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for all of the information! I've been looking at the XEL, but would want the training and feel confident before investing that big chunk of change. I really enjoy your videos.
@-redacted-22142 жыл бұрын
I must have one of these. Is the turbine version still part 103?
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I missed this comment. The only Mosquito XE version that is ultralight is the XEL. The XE, XE 285, XE 290, and the XET are all general experimental category.

Looks like there may be a blade balancing issue. When copter is running you can see the cyclic shaking in his hand.
@FlyNavy2 жыл бұрын
But it doesn't shake when the cycle is centered. Either on the deck or in a hover. I think the balance is good. I think the bearings in the control path are tight and loose. Not safety of flight level but enough to cause this feedback.
