The minute I take off, I would be lost were I came from. All sheds look the same at the end of the day. Such special skills at work here.

Just a suggestion. You seem to be a good and safe pilot. I always tie the blades down to the stinger. when moving the helio in and out of the hanger. Also after I untied the blades knowing the blades on a Bell turn in a left rotation, while starting, I place the rear blade to the right of the exhaust stacks inorder to keep the heat away from the rear blade because the blades are not sufficently moving yet. Once the front blade passes over the exhaust stacks for the first time, they have sufficent speed to where the heat is no facter on either blade. Over a period of time, starting the rear blade over the exhaust stacks can weeken both blades.

Thanks, found this interesting and informative to watch someone fly a helo. Also the level of checks on the machinery and general competence you show with many hours under your belt. Couple of suggestions: Bit more info about what state you are in, and how long the flight and miles planned. Keep up the good work!

This is the 1st video of this channel that ive seen. Video was nice & your flight in the Bell 206 Jet Ranger was smooth & safe! I dont like how you had "palmed" the end of the collective during the whole flight though. Is there a reason for that??? I'll check out your other videos! Thankya for sharing👍🏻!

I have two questions. On the next video can you record the full shut down too? Also, money-wise, how much do you figure you’ve spent since your first helicopter lesson until your first commercial helicopter job? Thanks and great video. You have the best camera angle I’ve ever seen anyone use. Really nice!

With the tool box right under the rotor mast in the seat, isn't on the center of gravely? Do you need the additional weight in the front seat or was that for start redundancy?
@topofthegreen

Helicopter time is ridiculously expensive and helicopter jobs are so hard to get, that’s what they don’t tell you, you need a collage degree and at least 1,500 hours before Antone will even talk to you, and then they might let you wash it, at 2,000 hours they might let you sit in it. There is no shortage of helicopter pilots, you have guys that will fly for free just for the opportunity to fly.

I've only seen one Medevac job requiring a degree. 1500 is the legal minimum to fly Part 135 commercial if it's a single pilot. Very few people can get to those hours, so once you have that, it's not hard to get a job in helicopters.

@GuardianAir

Hey glad you enjoyed it. Fair point, It's hard to convey the full story sometimes in these videos but I'll clarify that in this particular case the owner is also learning to fly and is very familiar with the ops. and has been briefed on the ins and outs of hot fueling and understands the risks. This is all part of SBT that I try to work in with my students to help make them more capable and thinking pilots. Totally see where you are coming from though and agree 100%. Cheers!

Nice video thanks…. Just a thought about that style of collective grip lifting into the hover, don’t forget there are a couple of emergency manoeuvres that may need fairly rapid throttle closure, eg tail rotor malfunction.
@GuardianAir
@GuardianAir Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input! I see where you are coming from. The collective in this particular jet ranger is pretty stiff and so I developed this habit. Mechanic says its fine mechanical but makes it difficult in the hover. We just got it out of maintenance though and they managed to loosen it up a bit so maybe I can go back to the "normal" way. Cheers!

You are not using a checklist??? Big mistake. Regardless of how familiar you are with your machine, failure to read a checklist will catch up with you one day. Safety, safety, safety.
@GuardianAir
@GuardianAir Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching the video! hope you enjoyed it. Checklists are very important and as someone who is a strong advocate of safety I'm open to implementing any procedures that make flying safer. In the fixed wing environment checklists are often used in different phases of flight such as taxi, takeoff, cruise, approach, and landing. Flying single pilot helicopter missions unfortunately does not afford the luxury of handling checklists in flight as both hands are occupied by controlling thing. I've found flow checks to be very useful and if done consistently and thoroughly can add a good safety net. I've seen students read a checklist and miss critical items because they are not engaged with what they are reading or they don't comprehend it, so I think the most important thing is to slow yourself down and be methodical and consistent. Good thoughts though and thanks for opening the discussion. Cheers!
