Morning from the UK. I’m a recently retired 744 Captain having done over thirty five years with a major UK carrier. I have had the most wonderful career, however apart from instructing I’ve never done any challenging single crew ops in remote areas like yourself. I really admire your total professionalism and dedication to the operation. Fascinating videos, keep them coming! ATB.

35 years flying, wow that's a long time. Thank you for the kind words. The only problem with single crew is you don't see your own flaws. It's sometimes nice to fly with others to hone your skills just a little bit better.

As a PPL and ex-PNG resident, who worked for 5 years as a geologist all over the country in the 1970-80s, I'm finding your VLOGs fascinating. Your explanatory commentary, not talking down to your audience, is excellent in keeping us in the picture. Obviously the more scary stuff, landing on short muddy strips in marginal VFR rather than IFR approaches into the major airports (such as they are in PNG) will attract a bigger audience. Perhaps an over-the-shoulder camera giving occasional shots of the panel would be a welcome addition. Have no doubts that your efforts will be much appreciated by KZbinrs all over the world, so please keep up the good work.

I just discovered your channel and though I am not a pilot, I have worked in the airline industry and am aware of bush operations mainly in Alaska. To answer your question, I would be happy with whatever you want to show me and I have noticed you have quite a few vlogs already so I will have plenty to watch for awhile. Some time ago I did see a few vlogs of an airline that operated in terrain like you are doing just West of you in Indonesia. At the time, it was run by a lady who recruited pilots, many from the UK, to fly to remote villages, similar to what you are doing. but I lost track of the site so I can't tell you the name of the airline. Nonetheless, I look forward to watching your vlogs....thanks!

I came across your videos several days ago. I absolutely love them. The flying into hills and mountains that you do is incredible flying. I used to fly a Piper Seneca into a grass strip that was 2000 feet long with wires on one end and a fence on the other end. That was challenge enough. What you do is incredible! As so many others have said, your videos are great. As a Christian and a former missionary kid having lived in Africa as a child and then going to Cameroon and Togo for short mission stints myself, the countryside and the people bring back memories!. It is all beautiful! You asked for more comments so I will oblige. I hope my comments are apropos and you as a pilot enjoy them. 63 years ago my family flew into central Congo on a DC-6. We landed on a grass strip for a fuel stop. Some of the local people had to roll 55 gallon drums up to the wings and pump the fuel into the wings manually. We ended up at a mission station colocated with a town with the name of Wembo Nyama. My father was the pharmacist and hospital administrator there at the Methodist hospital. I saw my 1st surgery when I was 7 years old and had my own stool to stand on in the operating room. Things were different back in those days. In 1960, Patrice Lumumba was pushing for independence from Belgium and rebels were reading various mission stations and schools around the country. A number of Catholic priests and nuns were assaulted or raped and some people were killed. Under the circumstances, the United States government ordered the evacuation of all American citizens. A very similar manner to your making note of evacuating the tribes missionaries in the last week, we were evacuated from a small grass field outside of the town of Lodja. This was another mission station about 2 hours from our own station. We were approximate 4° south of the equator. The United States information service provided a DC 3 and it made 4 trips to pick up all of the missionaries. My family of 5 including my parents, my brother and I, 8 and 11 years old, along with our infant sister climbed on board the airplane. We had 4 suitcases and there were no seats. Everyone simply sat on the floor of the airplane. Everything my parents had collected for 15 years of marriage had been packed up and left in the attic of the mission home next door to our house. We found out 2 years later that the single missionary who had been left behind to load all of the missionary possessions had forgotten to go into the house where our possessions were stored. Everything was lost but my father's stamp collection in my mother's silver service that they carried out in the suitcases that we had on the airplane. The field was short enough that when we landed, there was foliage caught in the rear wheel of the aircraft. We landed at the Kamina Belgian airbase in southern Congo and then were added to several other groups of Americans, primarily missionaries. We were all loaded onto a C-124 Globemaster. That was the 1st double-level, heavy-lift transport aircraft in the US military. The nickname for the airplane was, "Old Shaky." We were flown from the 80+ degree temperatures there with the appropriate clothing to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia and landed in the middle the night with a ground temperature in the 40s or 50s. We were taken to a refugee center and given a few clothes. As families, we remained in Southern Rhodesia for several weeks to see if the political unrest would stop and we can return to our mission stations in Congo. That was not to be. The fighting went on and in September of 1961, Dag Hammarskjold, Secretary-General of the U.N. was flying to Congo to try to set up a cease fire. His aircraft, a DC-6 or DC-7, crashed and he with the other folks on board died. My father and a number of other missionary men went back into the mission stations shortly to try to wrap up their work and hand over in an orderly manner the finances, responsibilities and plans for the various works in central Congo. My father, as the hospital administrator, had a cash box with all of the money from the hospital and went out into the jungle and buried the box in hopes of being able to come back at a later date when he could figure out who to turn the money over to and not have that money squandered. He was able to go out and dig up the cash box and did his best, I am sure, to further the work in the brand-new hospital buildings that had been built in the previous couple of years. We had a missionary pilot who flew a Cessna 180 or 185. He flew over our mission station, Wembo Nyama, to check on our missionary doctor who was still working at the hospital at the time. I am uncertain whether or not my father was on the station at that moment. We know that the rebels were on the mission station at that time. The doctor waved off the pilot, Burleigh Law. He felt, however, that something was not right and so he landed the plane to make sure that everything was all right. 1 of the rebels demanded the key to the airplane but burly refused to give it to him. The rebels shot him and killed him. The sad thing was he had an additional key and the rebel could not of done anything with the airplane anyway. Anyway, as missionaries went back to our mission station and others personal possessions had also been left behind, they found immediately and for years to come isolated things it had been their personal or family possessions now in the possession of some of the local people. That was a sad time in the history of Congo and unfortunately, in some ways it seems like it is not much better almost 50 years later. I have never felt called to be a missionary although I did go on to become a physician. I love the Lord and I believe that the highest priority in our lives as Christians is to share the gospel to all peoples. I will hopefully be able to continue going on short-term mission trips to Africa for a number of years to come. I am thrilled to be able to see your videos and hear more about the work being done by the various mission groups including the new tribes missions and also the Nazarene church that has had missionaries there in Papua New Guinea. May God bless you and your family and keep you safe. Keep up with the videos!

Thanks, Ryan, for making these videos. I had friends that flew for MAF in the early 80s. Wow, so much more sophisticated aircraft now days! Also, had friends who were with Wycliffe Bible Translators to Guapapawa(spelling?) people of PNG in late 80s and 90s. They were there for 20+ years. Therefore I have personal interests in Missionary Bush flying. Since I have a private pilot with instrument rating license, I enjoy very much your dialogue while you takeoff, inflight, and landing videos. Also, interested in knowing more about you and your family-at least what you feel comfortable in sharing on you tube. God bless and protect you and family.

for sure, I like these videos and would appreciate if you could continue producing them and perhaps visit some of the more remote regions. You seem like a very accomplished pilot with a calm voice who can teach. Maybe a little of your background, family, aviation training, how you came to be a pilot in PNG. What is there to do during your off time? How does the Kodiak differ from the Caravan. Have you flown a Caravan? Do the customers pay the airlines company for tickets and luggage or is there some other way to compensate the airlines ? I retired a couple years ago after 42 years giving anesthesia and started flying lessons in a Piper Cherokee but couldn't pass my medical but it sure was fun those 8 hours. I ride with friends now. Thanks again, see you soon, Ted in Sebastian, Florida

Hi. I’m an ex RAF pilot with time on executive jets and fighters, I had a great time. I also had a while on exchange with USAF and RAFO. This is a style of operation I didn’t experience for myself although of course I am aware it existed. Perhaps the most interesting part is the use of modern flight avionics to assist the smooth operation of the plane - and you really have that well screwed down.
