I'd say this is by far one of the best videos on PID tuning out there. You and Sed nailed this one! I'm sure a lot of us guys have struggled with tuning merely because we can't "see" to understand what right or wrong looks like. For example,, I never really seen how the "Integral" should be tuned. So, when you actually started tuning the "I" and explained how it should not drift and most importantly you made the quad bank and hold its line. Being able to see and have a visual defiantly helps. I'm man enough to admit that I didn't learn to tune PID the right way. Hell,, I just started punching numbers in,, not really understanding the input nor output. I do believe any newbie would appreciate the way you guys explained this tuning process and how important it is to stay on order,,, P first, then I, then the D last if necessary. So,,,, A lot of us guys look at your videos and most other better pilots videos and say "man I wish I could fly like that". This is not easy by far and it's defiantly a crawl to walk process. So, I appreciate and respect how you go out the way with these tutorial videos that may help upcoming pilots get to your level. Sad to say,, most other pilots don't give out their secrets to success. We just look at their amazing videos and is left wondering how in the hell they are able to do what they do. In doing that,,, a newbie will get into this hobby trying to fly and wanting to instantly fly like a pro. and of course teaching themselves bad habits which are hard to break. I'm trying to soak up all the knowledge I can now,, stuff I'd wish was knew before I put these goggles on. But,, when you're new all you want to do is fly,,,,, and learn the hard way. lol. It's a lot more I need to learn,, or secrets from better pilots. For example,,, how do you guys have your radio set up? I don't think it just stops at how you guys rigs are setup that make you fly so awesome. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with your radio set up too. For example,,, do you have throttle curve set up different from stock?,, dual rates?, if you run taranis do you have any weight settings? I watch guys stick cam videos and wonder how guys be at or over mid throttle,, but their rig be close to he ground,, over low enough for gates. If I'm at mid throttle,, my rig is damn near going over a two story building,, lol. Just some things I'm interested on learning or hearing about. Again,,, Great videos guys and Thanks

Thomas Richardson: I'm still learning like you are and often find myself much higher up than I meant to be. One thing to keep in mind is that these guys probably have their camera tilted quite a bit more than beginners do, to the point where the roll axis is used more heavily for steering. When the camera angle is very steep, the throttle pulls you forward instead of up. We have to learn the basics, then start tilting the camera more. Each time you tilt the camera more, the combination of yaw and roll changes for turning and the throttle pulls you more and more in the forward direction instead of up.

Thomas Richardson if you watch kevin aka stingerswarms tuning vid, he does this los and it seems MUCH more practical and allows u to see the results big time.. no love lost to flight club just saying maybe check out stingys approach, and there is no one perfect way to do this, well there is but requires Black Box logs and a lot of additional learning and information. For us piolets combining the methods from your favorite videos should help you get the best results the more information you have the better right? :) keep ripping!!

I purchased my QAV 250 kit from FlightClub almost a year ago (after stumbling into FPV on KZbin) and really appreciate all that you are doing for us new guys. I looked at getfpv.com and was about to order their kit when I found the "How to build a QAV 250 video on KZbin and decided to go all in with your setup. Sadly its not built yet! (two kids under 4 and both full time working parents)I am at the last stage of my build as of last night and super excited and also nervious about the first LOS flight to test how it flies. This tutorial helped me a lot in understanding the process and the knowlede behind what I'll be trying to get this quad to feel like in the air.Thanks for the time and effort that goes into these videos!

Great video guys and will probably end up being one of the definitive guides to pid tuning on youtube. Ive now put Betaflight on my Kiss FC which is in a new build using a Skitzo clone frame and setup all I need to do in BF for my first test and tuning flights using this video as a guide. The upgrade from Kiss firmware to BF was super easy and went without a hitch. Ill post back here in the next few days to let everyone know how it flys and tuning results. Subbed.
@OzFPVflyer7 жыл бұрын
After using this video as a guide to tune my Kiss FC with BF I then changed the filter settings from Joshua Bardwells video on how to eliminate prop wash for good Im pleased to say that my quad flying as if it's on rails and even performs so much better in wind. The only step I didn't do (as i didn't feel that the quad needed it) was the last step in Bardwells video. I'm loving my Kiss fc again. As a footnote - you should lower your D's if your playing around with filter settings per Barwells video. So for example if your changing the filter settings lower your D's to say 18 to 20 and tune from there but you should find your D's will sit around 24 ish with filters off. Any higher and you run the risk of very hot motors or even smoking them and if you do this and include the last step in barwells video you probably will smoke your motors. Tread carefully...lol

Blackbox telemetry logging makes tuning so much easier. You can see oscillations in the gyro readings that are too small to see or hear. It helps you get that last 5% and make the tune perfect. It also removes all confusion as to which axis is having the oscillation. And my favorite thing about blackbox is you can see if one motor is having to work a little harder than the others and needs to be replaced/cleaned/new bearings etc. There is no real way you could know one motor is producing 10% less thrust than the others without blackbox.

I''ve lowered my P gains significantly from stock but cant get rid of (very audible) constant oscillations from just flying anything past mid-throttle. I raised my TPA to 25% but that seems to have no effect. Seems like something else might be wrong....

I think that first number in the TPA has to do with the percentage of the PID's you will be reducing at the specified throttle range. The second number is the actual throttle setpoint (1000-2000) that the TPA is turned on.

You are simply using trial and error. What are the units of the gain? The gains for each quad may be different.
