For that yaw twitch in the beginning, I would check rcCommand in blackbox to be sure I wasn't bumping the stick by accident. I've had that happen before no matter how sure I was that I wasn't. Good tutorial.

Do you mean when I was punching the throttle and it yawed a tiny bit? It could possibly be my shaky thumbs, (#thumbs4lyfe) but I will check :) Thanks so much for taking the time to take a look :D

great tuning tips! I smoked one of my esc when i first started tuning as a beginner. Leaving default values for D and just increasing P values for roll and pitch caused the motors to overheat. You're the first tuner that gave a great tip in lowering the D values and increasing it last when you start inducing oscillations with P values. Learned a lot from this video! Thank you.

one of the best pid tuning short vids I've seen. hope this knowledge I'm learning will eventually pay off and I can learn to tune my quad. I thought I was just giving yaw input on hard punch outs when I would get some yaw but as you explained it it's just the pids causing it to happen. very good to know.

Hoping for some quick advice. I'm tuninga ZMR250, Naze32 R6, Cleanflight, 2300KV motors, 5x4x3 props. Have the tune damn close now, but at low throttle (after a punch or climb) it doesn't fall straight. It likes to pitch back and roll a bit to the right. Same direction every time, and flips on pitch axis don't stay straight. Hoping it's not a motor with a bent shaft rubbing or something.

Any chance you could share some video? Might be too low or P and I gain though, but depending on the severity of it, you might not be able to get it all out .

If you can't hold your fingers on your motors for a while without going "ow" they should be fine, but maybe look into the heat more if they are close.

@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
Ultimatevapor918 Wow, super low D. D does cause all heat though, it just amplifies it. Excess P along with just general bearing and air friction generate heat. Also 2650kv is quite a bit to ask of a 5inch prop haha. Unless they are burning hot don't worry about it.

@DashzRight8 жыл бұрын
Really good video. I was afraid of cranking up my pids because of oscillations, at the same time my quad doesn't feel rock solid, I might have discovered the point and it is that: Tuning a quad using 3s batteries is not the same than using 4S like you did, so probably I can raise my pids a lot more to get your same results, is that right?
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
Yes, different voltage causes different forces, causing different reactions, causing a different tune needed :) For 3S the values are usually higher so go ahead and raise them :)
@quadbrofpv97278 жыл бұрын
Another question, what do I do if my quad has some yaw jump? I can't tune it out in the pid tuning tab as far as I know.
@RCFlyer858 жыл бұрын
Assuming you have decent ESC's then you probably need to lower your YAW rates
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
The yaw jump prevention value will help this. Since yaw doesn't have much authority it can't really be rid of and you can help it by a little smoother release on the sticks.

tutorial was really informative! question, have you tuned a 250 size quad with the beta flight 3.0.1? my current setup uses a xracer FC 3.1 with 20a little bee esc(not pro version but with latest firmware since 12/31/16) and 2205 2600kv rebel motors with dalprops cyclones 5045x3 props and the frame is a 250 speed additional from catalyst machine works. I'm not sure how high the PIDs should be turned up compared to your video since it is a bigger quad but I'm afraid to turn up the D gain to minimize bounce back on rolls and pitch after quick stick inputs and back to center. thanks!
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
I don't fly 250 sized quads anymore, but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. Just turn the D up, fly for 30 seconds, and check your motors to see if they are getting extra heat.

Just so you know, the C rating is a total lie, not only is there any C rating above ~40, but burst are totally fake. The numbers are total fabrication of the company to get people to buy them. For their 20c vs their 70c batteries, they just sort the better performing cells together. Just keep in mind that the numbers are hardly even anything to look at. As for the extra punch, 1550mah has more capacity, thus can deliver more current.

A question. Is it higher/different pid values on a smaller quad then a larger ?. I am trying to pid a 105. I dont know if i have them high inuf. Its feels little sloppy even with high gain pids around P 100. Its a Piko blx FC
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
When it comes to small quads like that, they just lack the power, and even if you spend a very long time tuning it, it is very hard to improve it much. Also a Yaw P of 100 is not that high actually, as long as it isn't heating your motors and oscillating, I know lots of people who prefer around 110. Mine on 5inch quads is normally about 9.
@yksikaksikolmen8 жыл бұрын

You can adjust your rates at any time you like. If your rates aren't high enough you won't be able to get as good as a tune though, as it won't be aggressive enough to bring out the bad scenarios. just have a question. you were tuning it in acro, right? when you change the the pids, stick response also change on all flight modes (in angle and horizon as well). I mean after tuning it in acro you get no oscillations. what about when you switch to angle, do you get oscillations since you bumped up the proportional?
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
Ronn2664 Yes, I fly only in acro. The PIDs affect all flight, no matter the mode, however you may find some undesirable results in angle mode you didn't have in acro.

Great video. Tuning sucked on oneshot cleanflight naze32. Now I fly betaflight 3.0.1 mrm mantis (f3) blheli_s multishot, flys so much better with less tuning/fiddling

hello, what rate/expo u use?
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
You can see them every time I change the PIDS ;D 1.1 rc rate, .80 rate :)
@sfersystem8 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the good work, but do u use expo ? (for my level, without expo, it's just too nervous on center stick)
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
sfersystem I use betaflight 3.0.0 or greater, and that has super expo rate so it is built in. I use rc rates of 1.1 and rates of .8
@sfersystem8 жыл бұрын
I'm using betaflight 3.1.0 with F303 v3.1 4/2 and MS35a and Dys 2700kv in 4s and Dshot 600 but i've setup 20% expo on my TX, i think i need more training .. u fly with 4s too i think, Thanks for the fast reply.
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
sfersystem Do not use expo in your remote, it lessens the resolution. If you need to add extra expo do it in the FC .

RCAddict: "You can't just copy my PIDs" RC Flyer85: " Watch me" lol... I think our setups are similar enough. I'm surprised those LittleBees are holding up so well with MultiShot. I'm still on OneShot so I've got a lot of upgrading to do
@TheRCAddict8 жыл бұрын
LOL You can run normal bees on multi, you just can't exceed 2k pid loop. Still not 100% "safe" but I have had good results so far haha.

Hey! I have a question: I fly on 3s right now...so are your PID's higher on 3s as on 4s?
@TheRCAddict7 жыл бұрын
Yes, 3s is going to have less authority, so the PIDs will be higher than a 4s tune.
@k1f027 жыл бұрын
Ok thx!

I've come to the realization that I f*Ckin suck at FPV flying. I probably just stick to DJI drones. These FPV are so different.
