The first airplane I ever flow on was the Twin Otter. I was just a kid and was glued to the window looking at everything from 1500 feet! Love the Twin Otter. That beautiful red Air Tindi Dash 7 would have come from Air Greenland.

I remember seeing a Ward Air jet one night in the 70's at the Hamilton ON airport (YHM). I was quite young but the adults in the crowd were excited to see it arrive, probably because YHM didn't see that kind of traffic back then. Good on Air Tindi servicing the north with their impressive fleet. Love that all red livery on the Dash 7's.

I was too young to ever fly on Ward Air, but I knew Max as he'd come back to Yellowknife every summer with his family and go up to his cottage on his Beaver. He was one of the classiest gentlemen I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, and Tindi painting one of their aircraft in his colors is a beautiful tribute.

The twin otter is a most amazing aircraft. Flew golden west from Lax to AF plant 42. watching the runway remaining signs dwindle until we passed 1 then we eventually touched down, most of the 12000 feet behind us. Loved that flight.

My first flight was a charter on a Wardair DC8 from Saskatoon to London UK in 1969. Service like I’ve never had since. Excellent meals and table settings like you only get on the best first class now. Max Ward knew excellence.

Those Dash 7s are pretty darn cool, but the avionics on the twin otter, I've never seen before. Thanks for introducing us to Air Tindi! The livery made me think of Brussels Airlines, but it makes more sense that Air Greenland would have had Dash 7s. Thanks for the great insight! Look forward to your expedition video to Yellowknife!

March 2014 we flew Air Tindi DHC-6 Twin Otter (C-FATO) from the "float base" which was a frozen lake ice runway, out to Blachford Lake Lodge where we also landed on the frozen lake. Great experience, and we got to see the aurora in the couple of nights we were there. The number of lakes on the glaciated landscape is truly amazing. Return flight was another Twin Otter from Summit Air (C-FTFX) where we took off on skis and landed on wheels at Yellowknife airport. I noticed the Buffalo planes in the video - their eclectic fleet is worth a look.

PS - got to fly the DH-7 in Dec 1986 operated by Rocky Mountain Airlines from Denver to Avon STOLport & return. Got a fabulous view of the Rockies and Vail resort both ways. Avon is long gone (could be a Walmart theses days) replaced by Eagle County Airport.

Awsome! I worked for Wardair from 1970 to 1975 and have dozens of hours flying in WAH and the rest of the fleet as a mechanic/engineer. Most of the time was in the RH seat and did a lot of hands on flying when the Pilots got bored. The Twin Otter is my favourite a/c to work on and fly on. Well done and it is great to see it in it's original paint scheme, I hope it stays that way! Max would be proud.

Hi Gabe. I did know about Max Ward, I was lucky to have flown Wardair 747 from Manchester (England ) to Vancouver in 1977, it was a fantastic way to fly. Loving the channel, enjoying your wonderful behind the scenes vidieo's, just finished watching the A220 collection . The aircraft looks like a proper plane, modern and sleek, I hope to get chance to fly on one soon. Gary

Any way thanks, and yea I did see back in late 80’s that plane was owned by Wardair, the airplane has two pages of registration history, recently came from another Canadian Indigenous airline called Rise Air in May 2024.

Yes I knew where Air Tindi got that DHC-6. My Dad used to fly the DHC-4A Caribou (C-GVYX & C-GVYZ) around the north from '79 to '86. VYX was owned by Max Ward and affectionately known as "Victor Yankee Icebox" because the heater failed frequently. My favourite Air Tindi plane is most definately the DHC-7 Dash 7 😊

Max Ward - I remember very well. In the the 1980's soon after I emigrated to Canada I used to fly home to the UK on Wardair B747's. Two things of note - first Wardair served a decent steak meal in economy in contrast to the Air Canada offerings. And second, I remember flying on a Wardair B747-100 right up on the nose (4 economy seats across) out of Newcastle for a flight to Toronto. Newcastle runway was a mere 7200 feet long. It was definitely my airline of choice for transatlantic flights back then.

As a Canadian, I am proud of all the legendary aircraft that this small country (by population) has produced: the Twin Otters, Beavers, Turbo-Beavers, DASH 7, DASH 8, Q400, Challenger 600 Series, Challenger 300 Series, Bombardier Global Series, Bombardier C-Series (now Airbus A220). And how can I forget the most legendary of them all the AVRO Arrow! And of course, there was the AVRO "Jetliner" the first jet airliner produced in North America - we beat Boeing to the punch! Let's not forget all the other great aviation-related products such as the Pratt & Whitney Canada line of turboprops - the most successful in the world and the CAE (Canadian Aviation Electric) line of flight simulators - the top flight simulator manufacturer in the world and let's not forget the line of Bell Helicopters co-developed and produced in Mirabel Quebec such as the Bell 407, 429 and the newest 505. Finally, there are a myriad of aircraft component manufacturers in Canada too numerous to mention but I will mention two of the major landing gear manufacturers in the world, SAFRAN Landing Systems and Héroux-Devtek Inc. Did I leave anything out?

Gabriel, if you want a real thrill try and get yourself on a Twin Otter on "big wheels" (low-pressure tundra tires) landing and taking off from 600 ft (200 m) of unprepared ground (e.g. raised beach, dry gravel river bed) - so-called offstrip flying. Nothing like standing on the brakes, shoving the throttles fully forward, almost immediately pulling back on the control column, stall-warning alarms going off, and lurching into the air in no time at all...loads of fun!

I remember Max Ward and Wardair very well - the first low-cost Canadian airline. Wardair flew all the big jets - 747 - DC-10 - A300 - 727 and 737. The A300s were sold to the Canadian Armed Forces and served as VIP transport for the Canadian Prime minister until very recently when "Can Force One" was replaced by an A330 (two ex-Kuwait Airlines A330s)
@viscount757
@viscount757 2 ай бұрын
Wardair never operated the 737. And the aircraft sold to the Canadian Armed Forces after Canadian Airlines acquired Wardair were 5 of Wardair's 12 A310s, not A300s. Wardair did operate 3 A300s leased from South African Airways fairly briefly.
