Having lived and worked in Sweden for many years and travelled on business to places like Umeå, Skellefteå and Luleå, I can say that I would usually avoid SAS if there were decent alternatives; partly due to price and partly due to the poor service I experienced in the noughties and early 2010's. Norwegian was always my first choice but I would go Ryanair for this short flight, definitely. They are are not a fun airline but if you want cheap, safe and efficient on a 1 hour flight then they are quite ok.

They've only grinded my gears once over getting a refund for a cancelled flight due to Covid. Maybe I've been lucky or just less likely to find fault, given the savings being made. Like the man says, if you're flexible and show a bit of initiative, eg. small cushion in hand luggage for extra comfort, meal deal incl. drink in airport departure for flight. Five times cheaper for a short flight? It's a no-brainer when the actual travel differences are negligible.

"Let's go to Lapland". Really? I thought the flight was to Skellefteå. If it hasn't moved lately Skellefteå should (still) be in Norrbotten, not Lapland. ;-)
@Flightradar24DotCom2 жыл бұрын
Yes, a bit of creative license there which is technically incorrect. Skellefteå is considered a gateway to the "landskap" or province of Lapland and the line that demarcates Lapland is very close to Skellefteå. The idea in the narration was to evoke a concept more than a specific political area - and on that topic in terms of actual government administration Lapland is irrelevant in Sweden as the whole region is covered by the "läns" of Västerbotten and Norrbotten. Lapland is a cultural/historical region and Skellefteå feels very much a part of that. Though if we're being precise Skellefteå is technically in Västerbotten not Norbotten. All that being said, yes, it's true, it might mislead some into a false idea about the geography and should have been better clarified!

Price is what dictates choice for 99% of passengers. Why pay more on a one hour flight? 737 vs A320...hardly any difference. Both with excellent safety records. For eco-conscious Swedes then Ryanair makes more sense because of the high density configuration on their aircraft. No way I'd pay 5x more to fly SAS. I mean...I could use that extra money to spend on things for my actual trip away.
@Flightradar24DotCom2 жыл бұрын
Quite right about the price. Though I wonder about the eco-conscious part - the SAS 320NEO will be burning around 15% less fuel than Ryanair (NEO versus 737NG) while seating roughly 8% less passengers (189 versus 174). So SAS might have the edge there, on most flights to SFT anyway! Of course when Ryanair runs a 737MAX -200 on the route (currently just once a week), then they may win for fuel burned per seat....
@douglasnisbet11892 жыл бұрын
@@Flightradar24DotCom fair point! Ryanair have released figures on their website "proving" that they are the greenest airline group in Europe though, with the lowest CO2 per km per pax in Europe.
