You clearly have a good taste ;-) The Nobel Academy liked it too. Hope you pick up more of Olga Tokarczuk's books (toh-car-choock)
@BritishPolak_3033 жыл бұрын
That's a not a good English phonetic spelling of Tokarczuk at all.. it's pronounced To-car-chuk in English (To like in the word Top) Toh reads like toe and choock is just wrong czuk is short and snappy like in "how much wood would a woodchuck chuck". There's no choo, it's not long and over pronounced like there's a train coming.
@shmoolicious3 жыл бұрын
@@BritishPolak_303 Sure - it's not perfect - it's a Google-style approximation for English speakers. The way it's actually pronounced will depend on the accent of the the English-speaker. Your suggestion - "chuk", as in "woodchuk" sounds closer to a Polish "czak", not "czuk". I agree with you that "chook" isn't the right "u" sound and it's too long a vowel sound, but sounds pretty close to "Tokarczuk", whilst your version sounds like "Tokarczak'. The actual pronunciation is: tɔˈkart͡ʂuk - there's videos on KZbin with the correct pronunciation, if you actually care.

currently reading it now and feeling a bit lost, your thoughts and enthusiasm for it really helped me get excited for it again - thanks!

I think it’s a novel where the journey is more important than the destination. I remember enjoying the ride to the end.

Michael I am glad you read it! This is a great book and one of the best I have evere read. I love travelling and the book absorbed me from the very beginning. Maybe to some people Who do not understand the idea of constant moving, disocvering and connections between So many stories, the book may be difficult to read. I love it. I love your thoughts about it as well. As you may know, Tokarczuk was awarded with Nobel prize!

I've been curious to read something by Olga Tokarczuk for a while now, but was kind of intimidated. Your enthusiasm for this book is infectious, though. I think I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I really don’t get this book man. It’s just... different, interesting. Like, what does travel psychology got to do with plastination, etc. Some of the stories are real but she mixes them up with stuff like travel psychology which, I don’t think it’s an actual study. And I didn’t get what those maps are about.
