It is same in Maharashtra... Tribal communities receive ration at a very cheap rate; so they don't have to spend on food. This makes them to spend their earnt money on alcohol and that is also of very low quality. It is very dangerous for the health.

The problem is if someone talks about bringing them to the mainstream, promoting education among them and bringing investment into the region. All the progressive people start screaming that it is encroachment on their way of life. Is poverty really that fashionable? I have never seen a person who doesn't want prosperity for himself and his family. These humanities scholars who keep yapping about how private investment will lead to destruction of these people have themselves been fully urbanized, use the products and services of these industries daily. Its a fetishization of poverty, nothing more.
