A viewer asked me in the comments about making a flip top pen box. I am always searching for the next project and thought that that could be a good project to learn something from, and it was. I watched a few videos on making a pen box and most of them used a router to make the cradle for the pen, except for one. I wanted to make this a scroll saw project since that is the focus of this channel. After a lot of thought and one failed beginning this is the first completed attempt to make one. It is ok but I am not real happy with it. As they say experience is the best teacher. There is no "pattern" for this project other than the outline I drew for the pen cradle and the one I used for the lid inlay. I also learned about barrel hinges. I really like them but you have to be exact in drilling the holes and mounting them. The one exception to making the cradle with a router was @IzziSwan. He made a pop up pen box using the band saw and cut the cradle with a scroll saw. I bought the pattern from his web site and am going to try to make it all with a scroll saw. I hope that will be the next video so stay tuned.
