Surprised he didn’t mention slick rick the ruler. Ok, we can debate as to whether Rick is a "UK artist", he's from the UK but he's really a NYC artist. That said, he was the first from these shores to rap in an accent which US listeners found able to accept (maybe alongside Duke and Monie Love, both of whom Skinny mentions, lol) - even if they mostly thought he was an American with a strange voice, lol. That's what annoys me though when I hear some Americans denounce UK rappers as "sounding posh" (never understood that one, lol) and then laud Slick Rick as a ghetto spokesman. If anything, Rick's voice should be the perfect bridge for Americans to grasp the British accent in Hip-Hop. Rick has been so influential in Hip-Hop anyway, from the amount of artists he has inspired both sides of the pond, like Nas or Chester P, but I always felt there was missed opportunity there for Rick to connect both sides of the Atlantic (almost certainly a consequence of his immigration issues preventing him from leaving the US, or else I think he would've embraced the UK scene far earlier).
