I truly enjoy learning with you!! Abbreviations for forces in AP are different sometimes T, N etc. Everything else is perfect.
@FlippingPhysics7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, about those AP abbreviations ... I don't really like that they use W for Force of Gravity (or Weight), N for Force Normal and T for Tension Force. I much prefer using F with a subscript for what each force is. It reiterates that each is a force and doesn't confuse it with anything else, for example W = watts, N = Newtons, T = Period. I think the only one I missed mentioning in the video was N for Force Normal, oh well. Thanks again for checking this video for errors before I post it!

Descent video, a little mistake, though: on 2:30, F=ma, Newton should be kg*m*s^(-2). However, it appears on the board that "Newton=kg*m*s^(-1).

Yes. If KZbin would allow for upload corrections, I would fix that. However, I cannot.

by the way... does your standing on earth, spinning around the earth, does that make your standing there a NONinertial Reference frame? due to Centripetal Acceleration?.. I'm new to all this.. still learning.. :)
@FlippingPhysics7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Fun and education is what I am working for. With regards to your centripetal acceleration, (Yes, I am assuming you are currently on the surface of planet Earth) technically, yes, you have a centripetal acceleration and therefore your reference frame is non-inertial, however, the centripetal acceleration is roughly 0.034 m/s^2 and is therefore quite small and is considered to be negligible. Somebody published the calculation of that number here: casswww.ucsd.edu/archive/physics/ph11/hw/HW6.pdf

Hello sir! Thank you for providing these materials for us to use and study, they are very helpful! Though I must ask if you would be willing to work on Physics C FRQs, it really helps to see someone do a video walkthough. I believe Dan Fullerton has 2016 and 2015 solutions, but I'm wondering if you could do the earlier ones like 2008 or 2007. Thank you in advance for reading, and thank you again for these materials.

I have my solutions posted to the entire 1998 APC exam at www.flippingphysics.com/ap-physics-c-review.html Currently I am concentrating on distilling the entire AP Physics C: Mechanics curriculum down to 12 review videos. So I won't be making any more exam review videos at this time.

Flipping Physics can u please answer my question , what is the acceleration of a body before attaining terminal velocity ?
@FlippingPhysics7 жыл бұрын
I solved for that in this video at 14:30. The acceleration equation which is currently on the screen is the acceleration of a body before it attains terminal velocity.
@camilamendes59027 жыл бұрын
Flipping Physics is it equal to negative of acceleration due ro gravity ??
@FlippingPhysics7 жыл бұрын
The acceleration of an object falling through a fluid medium will only be equal to the negative of the acceleration due to gravity when its velocity equals zero. (Assuming it is dropped, right when it is dropped.) As the magnitude of the velocity of the object increases, the acceleration of the object gets closer and closer to zero (according to the equation at 14:30). When the acceleration of the object reaches zero, the magnitude of the velocity is no longer increasing and remains constant at the terminal velocity.

what does it mean by break forces into components?
@carultch2 жыл бұрын
It means to convert a given force that is diagonal to your coordinate system, into two forces that are aligned with your coordinate system. As an example, when a 1000N roofer stands on a 30 degree roof, his weight can be expressed as the vector sum of weight Wp that is parallel to the roof surface, and Wn that is perpendicular (or normal) to the roof surface. The reason we are interested in doing this, is that there are two forces that support his overall weight: normal force and static friction. Normal force (N) opposes Wn, while static friction (F) opposes Wp. No part of Wp is supported by N, and no part of Wn is supported by F. This enables us to determine that F=-Wp, and N=-Wn, with a negative indicating that it is in the opposite direction such that forces add up to zero. You usually use trigonometric functions to break forces in to components. In this example, Wn = W*cos(30 deg), and Wp = W*sin(30 deg). To figure out which one is sine, and which one is cosine, I recommend looking at the limits on what happens at the extreme angles. At 0 deg, which component should go to zero? And which component should equal the original force? Likewise, what happens at 90 deg? Knowing that sine rises and cosine coasts, you can conclude which trig term will chop the force to which direction..
