Thermal imaging could work, but it might not be the best tool for what you describe. Thermal cameras can detect and show hot/cold areas onscreen - this might help you see if there is a colder area in a wall or floor that might indicate a draft due to a hidden passage. We have not tested any thermal cameras for this application so we can't say for certain. You might be better off with some kind of ground-penetrating radar.
