I'd agree that WKX definitely taught himself to compensate; probably not only to show off, but rather to find a sort of bridge to the "human" world. Since Ghost Valley is only reigned by fear and hate, and many people always say that love is one of humanity's greatest virtues - I can see how WKX would especially get himself familiar with romantic poems. And basically everything else after that.

I've watched so many cdramas yet none has surpassed WenKexin's shameless flirtatious demeanor in Word of Honor. Simon Gong's acting is top notch. Layers of his character beautifully crafted and shown, evil lord, a master martial artist, and a lover. With all these hidden meanings of script lines and only familiar to people of chinese culture adds additional flavour to enjoy this drama. Here a grateful heart..

One of the many things which made me love this drama more is this clever usage of poetry to express their emotions and thoughts. As a non-Chinese speaker, even though I don't understand any of it without a clear explanation I still enjoy it to the root. Poetry in all languages has this universal connection to human emotion. I really loved the way you explained every word and their history. 'Flirt with Style' is the perfect description for WKX. I'm so very impressed by the scriptwriter too. The dedication she put into this work is praise-worthy. Even though this drama had a very low budget and it can be seen very clearly in their production quality - props and CGI, they covered up all that lacking by focusing on script and direction. It is such a beautifully done drama and the popularity and success it enjoys are truly deserved. Looking forward to more of your videos on Word of Honor. Thank You !!!❤

He’s such an anti-hero who can kill in an instant while also a king of flirt who can recite poetry left and right 😂 Such a refreshing character that you don’t come across often. Actually, Lan Zhan is very educated. He just does that thing where he uses the specific words needed and it shows educated he is that he can get away with using single word answers. Wei Wuxian is the one who uses poetry to flirt or even have fun like he did with the Yuandao thing since it was a play on words with a known poem and the onomatopoeias. But then, Wen Kexing and Wei Wuxian are both of the similar "chaotic gremlin" archetype who flirt with their love interest.

The ancient Chinese poem about the swan hit me hard because if Wen Kexing ends up sacrificing himself for Zhou Zishu, it will be the ultimate act of love, but it would break Zhou Zishu's heart for good because Wen Kexing is his soulmate so he would never love again. I am maybe getting the impression that it is not homosexuality as a subject that is censored, but the depiction of it. After all, it is common knowledge and acceptance that there were also such preferences in chinese history. As all these BL dramas showed, you don't need to see strip shows or sexual action or foul language to get all excited about what they mean. And frankly speaking, I must say I find this way even more interesting and elegant. And certainly educational. Hahaha. Unless the people who work in the Censor Office are all "uneducated" , they must surely understand everything AVX has described.

I thoroughly enjoyed your clarification n breaking down of the poetries. It just brought so much more depth to this drama. It made me understood more what's WKX emotional revelation n state of mind in those episodes. How clever of Priest to use poems to express emotions in the narratives, even managed to make sexual advances of WKX so elegant. The innuendos only fueled our imagination. 😆 GJ portrays the romantic dandy of WKX so well even wth his colourful clothings. Aahh the simple gesture of flipping his fan is impactful enhancing charms of WKS character too. I love his fan! 😍 ZZS stands no chance with onslaught of such attention n charms. ☺️ The distinction btwn WKS n ZZS is well defined portrayed so well by GJ n ZZH that we too can't help but takes preferences of respective personalities based on our feelings drawn out by these 2 characters. I m a romantic n all these poetries just adds to the draws of why I love WOH besides the awesome cuteness of the ML.😍 Thank you AX .. you've just made some of us who appreciates culture, folklore n poetries appreciate the richness of ancient chinese poems n of course WOH.😍😍😍😘🌹

Thanks so much for this! I went to two years of primary school in China so have very little understanding of Chinese poetry. I understand the general references but learning about the true meaning behind everything makes the script even more moving. Having read the novel as well, I think the scriptwriter has done an awesome job in adapting the story. Can’t get enough of this drama (and both of the leads)! So glad I got addicted 3 days into its broadcasting!!! Hoping the end will be good also!

您的解說與分析太精闢了!我這才發現自己miss掉這麼多關鍵細節。世界上恐怕也只有中國人才能在任何情境下都來個幾句詩,巧妙地運用在明喻或暗示。您的內容真的「寓教於樂」,Bravo~!

I love how WKX expresses his sadness with an original poem, because as a martial artist he is also a person who learned from many people but ultimately has his own technique, and the same goes for his poetry

Thank you so much for this!!!! One of the saddest parts of watching shl as a nonnative speaker is knowing how very many of these references are going over my head (though even I flipped out over wkx LITERALLY CUTTING ZZS’S SLEEVE OMFG) Thanks for deepening my experience of this delightful show ❤️

Ooh! Thank you so much for explaining all the poem references! 🙏 This aspect of using poems and idioms in the original novels and their drama adaptations is such a treat to understand! Also shows just how much the original author and the script writer have read literature to be able to weave such apt poem references everywhere in the novel/drama. Very much looking forward to your explanations of poem and idiom references for the remainder of this drama. 😄🙏
