I printed a V2 out of glow in the dark PLA, then put UV LEDs inside controlled off a brushed ESC. have yet to fly it at night, but the whole plane can glow.

I have been looking into these kits over the last few days and I must say, its nice seeing a print, assemble, and fly from a reputable place. You guys should def do a few more 3d printed wing episodes. They even have a mini Drak type on Thingyverse. Should do a video on one of those start to finish. Using one of your power packs of course!

One thing I've noticed with my 3d printed planes, especially ones with such a thin profile like these planes or the 3dLabPrint Spitfire Mk XVI is that they cut through the air so well you have to let off the throttle 2 to 3 times earlier than you would expect to get them to slow down enough for landing.

Hey guys, an even easier way to detach a 3D printed part is to use acetone as acetone does not attack the PLA but dissolves the CA glue you use to assemble the plane.
@cjoe59773 жыл бұрын
Acetone can cause some damage to PLA cnc kitchen has a video on it I believe
@dihler553 жыл бұрын
@@cjoe5977 well I done it quite a few times and nothing really changed but good to know. What I did is dip the blade of a hobby knife into the acetone and basically cut the glue as it dissolves so I'm thinking that not enough acetone is present to damage it.

I wonder if you could get the same impact resistance out of PETG. Maybe the tough PLA is lighter? PETG is a copolyester and is very impact resistant. Some people say it's difficult to print, but I've never had any issues. Might be a good alternative if someone can't find a specific PLA blend, but still wants to print high impact parts. Layer orientation is also going to play a major role in part strength.
@scratchinjack6082 жыл бұрын
I would think PETG would be heavier and less "crisp." What amazes me is this Light Weight PLA. In the end, I would thing, it is the engineering while on CAD these RC models for 3D printing is the key for light weight and sturdiness.

I know you might need some supports but I'd much rather the fuselage be printed in section flat instead of on end and same for wing parts. Why? The wings especially because the force applied to them will separate the layers much easier in the orientation you printed them. With the layers oriented like that, even with the rods inside (that's smart), you could still get the layers to delaminate. If you print the wings say, on their leading edge and just sand/finish that, now the layers will be long ways and the parts will be much stronger under load. But the orientation you chose is the quicker way since there's no supports. So I understand that. I'd do that in the iteration phase. But for final I'd swap orientation to gain more natural strength When it comes to 3d printing, you really need to pay attention to layer orientation when loads are going to be applied.

What's the deal with Colorfabb being basically double the price of any other filament? I can get 1000g of PLA+ for $18 and its pretty tough material, but they want $45 for 750g? That better be some high tech stuff cause that's just the price when its on sale!!

So what would happen if you don't use the lightweight "foaming" PLA and just used normal PLA??? Would the models still be able to fly under the same power, would they be stronger??? I'd also love to see a test where as much of the plane as possible was printed, including landing gear, motor mounts, regular or folding props, and even using regular PLA for the wheels and flexible TPU for the tires. The only non-printed things you're allowed to use would be radio parts, servos, connecting rods, motors, and batteries. No CF rods either, you're stuck with BBQ skewers but only if absolutely necessary.
@roadstar4992 жыл бұрын
this tough PLA is more than likely harder to print...i have printed SPla and getting it to stick to plate can be a hit or miss... it seems like same product since it is like PETG tough... thanks

I don't think it would be that easy to replace that damaged part, you might try to pop that part out from the other but since you used super glue to attach those parts together there might be a good chance that you damage the other part in the process as superglue sticks very well to PLA especially to LW-PLA since its more porous.
