I love my radian, my record for flight time is 2.5 hours! I had extra time and a lot of thermals! Next one that you need is a night P-51!
@gertnood5 жыл бұрын
I bought one on Saturday, although I planned to test fly it before dark, didn't work out. So first flight was 11:15pm, and it was fantastic. This thing flies great, and it will ride some very light lift too. On Sunday it was warmish, but grey sky, cool ground from rain and a bit of snow Friday. I specked it out twice in 4-5 knot lift.. surprised the heck out of me. The lights are fantastic, you can see the thing for miles. First night flights - make sure you can find the panic switch quickly while you sort out your visual cues. The nose on view is not as well lit as some may like, but you'll figure out pretty quick what's going on. The instructions recommend a 1350mAh 3S, which is hogwash. The model needs all the weight of a 2200 3S up front, with only the end of the battery stuffed into the rear cavity and the rest riding piggyback in the radio compartment. Even then, the CG was about 3/8" too far back and I added weight just behind the motor, in front of the receiver. So far, big thumbs up! With rudder and elevator only, you won't be making any STOL landings.. so plan accordingly for your approach.
@gertnood5 жыл бұрын
OK - the above is needed to achieve the CG in the manual... From what I have read and based on my own trials so far, I am beginning to think that when E-Flite was deciding what the mandatory errors in this model's instruction manual would be, they settled on the CG and battery recommendation. Others have reported flying at 3.25", 3" etc. Mine is now back at almost 3" with a 2200 3S and no additional weight, and I far prefer the performance there.

I just made my first scratch-build after about 2 years of watching FT, an FT Long-EZ chuck glider modified to look like the Larrymobile. It has too little vertical stabilization and is not balanced at all, but it flies. I am not satisfied. BUT I WILL CONTINUE. Shout out to all the encouragement and fun FT provides.

I've been flying some version of the Radian for some time now, an I have to say that the Night Radian is my favorite. It's such a majestic wing in late dusk hours, an it slope-soars so peacefully. On the banks of The Outer Banks, it just hangs dead still against the wind, not moving forward at all, an a sight that brings everyone out, a lot of times people wanting to have a go at it, but of course,...no. Lol

I’ve been watching the channel since 2011, about the time you went up I guess. I think it’s so cool how the channel has exploded and over the past week, 14k new subs is incredible! Great work guys! I love the content and have so much fun building and flying. I can’t thank you enough for the years of fun. I buy my components from you whenever possible and I am very happy with what I’ve received. I bought a Radian about a year after they came out, I love that plane, super relaxing to fly and as mentioned it uses cheap 1300mah batteries. I LOVE the lights! Back when I was younger we would fly till we couldn't see the planes anymore, it would have been so nice to have all the lights back then, I am super excited to see this new plane. THANKS FOR AN OUTSTANDING NEW PRODUCT.

Woooow. Now that's what I would call real hours of fun. I have the umx radian and it has survived some winds and some first time slope soaring yes I know it's powered glider but it can be fun in the winds and I had passed the transmitter to 2 other guys and they can fly now. And now...This bigger version just made my day. 😍 I'm hooked. And the lights are just a bonus that I welcome at any time. It's slow flying,hangs up there for hours if you know how. Damn you FT and Horizon hobby....go ahead , just take my money . 😂😊

darned right. I freaking loved my radian. gonna have to get another sometime. maybe this one. the big thing for me is the near vertical climb capability. this was critical. I have no depth perception so I can't "tell" where my plane is relative to ground obstacles (meaning I tend to run into trees) the near vertical capability eliminates that I can just point the nose nearly vertical and power up and away from any ground clutter in short order. that was huge for me. just huge. Did they reinforce the tail weak point at the small of the tail before the stab? way to flexy and weak their. did not like the pro. too wibbly wobbly and the heavier mass was no joy. but the original radian (like this one) AMAZING aircraft. damned near anyone can learn to fly on one of these.

Ok after two days talking to Horizon tech support, IT WAS DETERMINED that the correct CG is 3 inches or 76.2mm from the leading edge of the wings. They need to change the typo and issue a Bulletin.

Very Interesting information. Horizon Hobbies needs to get this data change published very quickly. CG is 3 inches, not 2.5 inches as the manual states.

I have a question about the lights that I can't get a clear answer on anywhere. Are you able to make the lights completely static with no movement or color change? I like the concept of being able to adjust things, but for me, I want a Night Flyer that does not look like Las Vegas in the sky. GB
