'I don't the read the script, script reads me.' One of my favorite lines. For a split second it almost sounds profound and it doesn't mean shit.

The fact that Sandusky asked him *wtf does that even mean* but when Jack black told em the tittie budget movie strat they just completely ignored, thats how profound RDJ made the script line sound 😂

McCounaghey is quietly the funniest one for me, but everyone is so damn funny in this movie. I remember the controversy the "never go full retard" scene caused. But it was mocking Hollywood and the film industry; it was never an attack on those who are mentally handicapped.
@TheNefastor
@TheNefastor 26 күн бұрын
Maybe it's just me not being American, but I don't see what the big deal is about the word "retarded". Mental retardation is a medical condition with symptoms everybody knows. No matter what else you try to call it, that new name will still mean the same thing and if the "old" name was insulting, the new one will be too. So why bother ?

My FAVORITE part will always be RDJ’s face when he’s about to take the map from Ben Stiller. I crack tf up, Every Single Time! He was nominated for an Oscar for this role. He was always a great actor. This was his return to form after all of his drug problems. Brilliant performance. This movie is as close to comedic perfection as is possible. Any more or less and it just wouldn’t have worked. It was so fun watching you, Jen, experience this masterpiece for the first time. Hilarious. Now, I gotta watch it. 😂😂😂 with the DVD commentary 😂😂😂

Your mom is very smart and/or media literate. Her prediction of him being gay was very impressive. I have also seen your mom understand very subtle things in other movies or predict things in movies that are not easy to predict.

Well, I don't know if the conversation between Tugg and Kirk actually intends to make fun of mentally or physically challenged people. In my perspective, the conversation between Tugg and Kirk clearly explains how Hollywood movies always portray mentally challenged characters in such a way that their disability is not too extreme that the able-bodied audience doesn't find them repulsive. Such characters can still exude positivity and provide wholesome feeling for the able-bodied audience. They are always potrayed as innocent magical souls and often conform to the beauty standards. The best example is Forrest Gump. His disability is neither gross nor too extreme for him to be successful in life even though he mostly got lucky. He is handsome, has a respectable family heritage, is financially sound and has a loving mom who goes to any extent for her son. But, the problem is Hollywood movies always fail to portray characters with extreme mental disabilities who are not blessed with a good family, resources, looks, opportunities or even luck. Well, it's mainly because able-bodied people may find such characters too depressing, aesthetically unappealing or even worse, outrightly repulsive. Audience may not even find anything to relate to such characters. That's the primary reason why we often get to see characters like Forrest Gump in cinema but seldom characters like "Simple Jack". I think this is what Kirk meant when he said "never go full r*tard". I strongly think this single line alone is in itself a satirical dig at the Hollywood's recurring trope of mentally challenged people whose disabilities are not too extreme that they still turn their lives around and are epitomes of innocence and optimism. Of course, it's understandable why people find the use of the "r word" over and over in this particular conversation off-putting or objectionable because the same "r word" has been used since ages as an insult by being completely unsympathetic to the mentally challenged people. They are still seen as outcasts in many parts of the world. But, I think instead of seeing this movie conversation as an insult to a particular group of people, we should focus on how this conversation cleverly exposes Hollywood's age old depiction of mentally challenged people only in a way that is acceptable to the able-bodied audience. Much love ❤.....

It's rather amazing the amount of A-list actors they managed to pull into this masterpiece. Then again, Ben Stiller asks you for a movie, you know it's gonna be a great party. You should watch Mystery Men if you haven't already.

The best thing about this movie was the hush factor while filming so people outside the production didn't really get what was going on. Then they all showed up for the premiere night and everyone was shocked when Tom Cruise, Mathew McC, Ben Stiller, RDJ, Jack Black rolled up on the red-carpet. The pics and reports the next day skyrocketed the hype.

This movie could easily still be made today. It's all about the intent. Same thing with Blazing Saddles. The scripts would be updated so the jokes and the message would land better, but all the same jokes could be done.

It can't be Stolen Valor because he was actually a member of the armed forces. Of course, he did greatly exaggerate his position within. Shameful, yes, not a crime of Stolen Valor, however.

You mention it could not be made today, but it was not much less shocking it could be done mid 2000s. It almost seems like 70s would have been the last time something hitting all these topics could get a production and marketing budget, or wide screenings.

"Probably couldn't be made today" Ya'll I am shocked that it was even made in 2010!!! Especially nowadays with all of the "cancel culture" out there, I am shocked that people haven't rioted about RDJ's role here... That said- All in all, MOST of the movie was just very "okay" to me personally (not a huge Ben-Stiller-style humor person).... BUT... but but but.... BUUUUTTTT...... Robert Downey Jr.... myyyyy word. Honestly one of the single funniest performances I have ever seen delivered with a straight face the entire time. He's a solid 12/10. Just totally incredible.
