Flli. Rizzini - The Perfect Side by Side?! 😦

Warning - this gun is not flashy! It’s not the MOF gun or covered in gold. Rather this gun represents all round perfection in a traditional style of gun making.
The best of the best, indeed ‘the perfect roast potato’
Enjoy
PS - a roast potato is something not particularly special in itself however to master the making of one takes many years of devotion to the art. This gun is comparable in the eyes of a layman to an AYA but trust us - it isn’t!!!

A few years ago, to get across the idea that just ticking boxes does not make a good piece of writing; (for a group of teachers), I recorded the sound of an English gun from early 1900s, and a cheap Spanish gun , closing. EVERY SINGLE teacher identified the sound of the quality English gun. Equally, by feel alone they could differentiate between a £30 fly rod and a £200 rod. None of them had anything to do with shooting and only one of them fished. Quality is not something restricted by words.

What you call roasted potatoes, are called home fries where I'm from(Missouri, USA). I actually have ate more at restaurants than at home. Regardless that is a fine shotgun. Nicer than I be comfortable having, as I am slightly klutzy. So all my guns end up with dings and scuffs if handled with any regularity. Best wishes.

Flli Rizzini, which by the way has nothing to do with all other Rizzini guns (some nice and even good value for money, and others quite on the vulgar side) that we can find around, are unquestionably some of the best S/S guns in the world. For all the reasons you mentioned, of course, which are mostly finishing and aesthetic qualitys, but that doesn’t separate those guns from the rest of the high end S/S guns all around the world, from the english Purdey, H&H, Boss and a few others, but also the most aristhocratic Italians S/S, like the Bosis or the Desenzani, also among a few others, not to mention the amazing german Hartmann & Weiss (I could name some other makers, but I guess that is not necessary). But what in my opinion is very worth of being mentioned when we are talking about the Flli Rizzini S/S is their own action system, diferent from Purdeys, H&H or even Scott actions that are used by most of the best S/S guns makers in the world, being a action system that is not only incredibly solid, but also gives the gun very unique handling characteristics. Only matched by Purdeys, but that is my opinion... Regarding the guns presented they do look amazing, but as someone else before me said I’m also a S/S man (I shoot a Purdey Pigeon Gun, a EJ Churchill Field Model and an Arrizabalaga). Although that single trigger is “acceptable” (if Boss uses it often I guess it’s OK), I truelly hope that the chokes are fixed... interchangeble chokes in a S/S is like having an airbag in a Ferrari 250 GTO, you just can’t do it...! I’m a recent subscriber of your channel and I think you’re doing a great job, congrats!

Hi, as a side by side hunter, (ugartechea and arrizabalaga) , I must admit that Rizzini is gorgeous, however, in my opinion a classic SxS must have double trigger and fixed chokes, is the best shoot selector, the most intuitive. Question, the Rizzini has fixed? How whe select? In safe button? Greetings from Spain, I love your channel

* I agree, without double triggers or the option to order it with double triggers, it is far from the perfect hunting gun. If one is strictly a clay target shooter this gun may be perfect.

'The' best is a subjective statement and claim. Being beautifully made and finished isn't the end of the story though - it's the materials, the bits that no one can look at and judge - it's how they react to heat and to wear and to treatment - - there's more to Best, much more than the eye appeal.

Unique and superior boxlock engineering, too. Was the wood-to-metal fit at the forend iron as perfect as at the receiver? I wish the resolution of the images and of my screen were sufficient to begin to appreciate the ecstasy-worthy engraving. So, how does the gun compare with the best from Boss and Fabbri? Are the German and Austrian makers in the running for the best in the world?

... we got a little lost in the weeds with roast potatoes (!) What I was trying to explain is the difference between a good quality restaurant meal at a price you don’t mind paying, and the gulf of step up to 3 Michelin starred food. The level of perfection achieved is not obvious to everyone and you need some understanding of how much effort and expertise goes into producing it to fully appreciate it. ... hence the difference between Aunt Bessie’s and homemade roast potatoes!

Guns are struck off to prepare them for proof. All it means is the barrels are sanded down (blueing is removed). Sleeved means new tubes have been welded on and it has passed proof (it is illegal to offer barrels for sale that are out of proof). If it is sleeved and reproved then it has seen a fair bit of use. No doubt a perfect gun. It looks like it has borderless checkering and that sets it apart from “ 3 border to catch run over crowd”. With that said, it has standard house pattern rose and scroll. It’s all a matter of taste, but I think a perfect gun should be unique. At first glance it drowns in a sea of other guns, best or not, that look exactly like it.

@@stog9821 Thanks for reply (I didn't deserve one.) I am from the Midlands, in England. People tell me I have a "posh" accent, as in received pronunciation, like BBC English. But when in the States people struggled to understand me and often thought I was Australian. My point is this chap is about as clear and easy to understand as it gets in England. If you had an accent from say Liverpool or Newcastle I could see why you have problems. I guess we get lots of American accents on TV and movies, and also struggle with the ones here so are used to it. I must have come across as rude, I'm sorry. Glad you enjoyed the video. It all comes down to be the most convincing status symbol. But if the status that you want to convey is not that you are the richest, but that you are the person who will be most attracted to quality of workmanship and artistry, then, the gun does the job. But then, if all you possess is not of such level of quality, then the status will look somewhat phony. So, it is in the end, a status symbol that conveys only one thing, that you are rich, filthy rich, and that you can deprive others of the things that they want by paying more than they can, including the artists who spent so much time building it and cannot keep it for themselves.. Johnny, you are a gun lover, but aren't you also a bit of a status seeker in praising this locker queen to high heavens? It looks a bit like keeping Fabergé eggs to throw at mirrors when you are mad. Theatre.
