Great video and good info. IMHO I think the “bow” or drag on the line is the result of two factors: too short a rod and not keeping the rod tip high enough. I barely keep six to eight inches on the surface of the water. I fish this technique in much the same way I high stick nymph when fly fishing.

Thanks Sean. Great video-I loved the split screen. I love watching that float sink on a fish! Speaking of which, those are some beauties. I’ve looked at all the floats on the market and yours has exactly what I am looking for-clear below/bright above, easy to use, and not some monstrosity that’s going to bang them in the head. We store going to Montana and will be fishing the Yellowstone. My stepsons spin Fishes whereas I fly fish. We’ll give your floats a workout and will let you know how it goes. This style of fishing is used in the Salmon River in NY for steelhead, but we use a float reel. This reel allows the line to effortlessly peel off allowing the float to drift naturally with the current and no bow in the line. This reel works so much better than the spinning reel for stream float fishing.

David .. You don't need a special rod/reel for this type of fishing. A spinning combo is more than adequate. Hell, a bamboo pole would do the job. The trick is in the bait, placement of that bait, and similar. I use flies (with a spinning combo), eggs, sweet corn, bacon, or real worms. Fish (released or escaped) can't digest plastic.

in the uk we would float fish for these but feed pinkies and put gozzers on the hook, great video, also we sit on a chair away from the water so the fish cannot see us, some build screens like shooting so the fish cannot see us, some of the now have adapted and have periscopes

You might plan a trip out west, Colo, Wyo, Utah, Mont...etc. Our fish have a little more color. We also have big trout, I fish the river for walleye.

What happens if the fish swallows this artificial worm. Plastic is a big hazard to fish and other aquatic life. Why not use a simple earthworm or natural larvae ?

That's a good question. It's so thin that the fish may be able to pass it. Also, many areas where trout are stocked they are not able to survive year round because the water temps get too hot, so they all die from environmental conditions. Is it wrong for agencies to stock trout for people to catch in areas where the life of the fish can't be sustained yearround? That's another good question. Perhaps those fish are stocked for the purpose of people to catch and eat and they don't intend for them to continue in that area beyond the trout season.

At this point your basically using a fly fishing technique with spin rod , should just learn to fly fish , indicator and 2 fly system it’s way easier with a 9ft fly rod setup . Step your game up
