Nice one Dean. I think I saw that pillow block mod on Instagram and thought, "That looks like the casting I made for the float lock vice"..... and so it was. Cool!

This was a great project to follow along with, thanks. The bracket on the drill press looks great and it was a fantastic idea for the pilot drill. It looks like we need to lookout for a float-lock vice

Great video! I had been looking for a Float-Lock Vice for a long time and finally found one at an estate sale. I set mine up in the same fashion as you did but my setup was much simpler due to the square table on my Clausing Drill Press. You did a great job with the pillow block casting. I don't use the Float-Lock Vice often since I primarily use an X-Y Rotary Table with a vice mounted to it. But there are certain jobs that nothing is better than the Float-Lock. I just discovered your channel. Keep the videos coming.

Dean a number 7 Stanley plane would have solved your problem on your wooden fixter , I believe that was a piece of oregan with hard and soft gain . Very hard to plane flat use a fine gain timber like maple. Kit from Down Under

Hi Kit, Yeah wish I had a #7 there a bit pricy for an occasional wood butcherer. I do have a couple #3 and a #5. Pretty sure that was Douglas Fir and yeah Oregon. Cheers...ATB...

My wood work teacher donated me my 7 plane in 1964 . The education department was in there wisdom upgrading to planes with plastic hands.

Piece of wood, rubber bands or whatever. It ain't stupid if it works. And you have one more very nice tool to use.

Hi John, Thanks, Yeah my neighbor gave me 3 maybe 4 of them, the others have core holes. We don't know the history but I think there quite old. The came from his antique engine club. The Iron quality is very good. Thanks for viewing and commenting ! ATB....Dean
