Today we decided to try something new in our float tubes. We launched in Newport Harbor and brought the heavy rods, and the bat rays didn't disappoint. Stay tuned for more content this summer!
We picked up some whole squid at an Asian market and headed down to the harbor at around 9am. We launched a little after low tide with a good incoming swing coming up. We got 3 bites on the day for bat rays in a period of about 2.5 hours, and managed to hook and land 2, including a solid bat ray around 30 lbs or so. Sebastian was also able to put a bend in his new jigstick, and it worked out nice. After bat rays, we had about 2 hours left to fish and whacked some bass, coming in with a little under 20 fish.
