One of my brothers as that same model, he took it out one time and was knackered after a couple of hours, but then he is 58 and about 20 stone, I was surprised the thing didn't sink when he got himself into it after much huffing and puffing with a few swear words thrown in, but to give credit to the tube it is quite sturdy and held up well under his weight.

Thanks G, this model sure is robust and is very stable on the water, it is perfect for the heavier angler although I wouldn’t want to carry it too far😂

Yes you’re right we bought two float tubes thinking it would be easy as we found out it was a nightmare after a days fishing I came off it and I could hardly walk so I think that there up in my brothers loft after that we bought a pontoon it’s called the sea eagle it’s American and it’s fabulous you sit out of the water it has a great seat plus it has oars and you can have a electric motor on the back we use it when we fish up north and love it so if any of you guys are thinking about buying a float tube unless you have real strong legs and I mean strong forget it and save up for a sea eagle.

Thanks for commenting mate. Yeah the float tubes are not for everyone. Just wanted one as I’ve been thinking about it long before I got the kayak. Small inflatable boat with engine won’t be far away I feel. Thanks for the comment mate👍

I'll get it still, considering it's a free workout ill enjoy that. But you can also modify a light motor on the float tube if you like. I'm used to walking about 15000-20000 steps anyway when fishing. It's a fair warning though considering most people arent out to also get a little workout. It's going to be interesting on my thin long lake because the wind can really travel... Probably wont use it on those days when it's direct from one side to the other. But other than that it's a cheap way I think to get to spots you can't and especially nice in small waters. Also to get to islands u cant normally get to and u can fish off of them. :)

@dennisthemenace533 that’s a the main reason I got it just to have some freedom on the water and explore. I am getting more use to the tube now though, it is more challenging in the wind but I’m not put off by that as much especially for fly fishing as it proves to be more productive. Because I have the oars on this model, I do think that the the extra large fins are not necessary to get to a-b and just use them to stay into the wind or to manoeuvre.

@Ashw1115 Hey Ash, I’m 210lb, they are super stable compared to a kayak, I would only recommend a float tube for fresh water fishing. The savage gear high rider float tubes are not the lightest on the market but they are very robust. If you intend walking miles to reach the water from your car, I would go for something much lighter.

Great honest video, well filmed Douglas. Looked compact when you were lifting it off the back seat of the car. I think for fly fishing a loch where you get a nice long drift it would be ideal. I saw some guys (older than me can you believe) using one when I was on Orkney. I'm sure you'll get many hours of fun and fish using it.

Good timing! I bought a guideline drifter a few weeks back, with snowbee fins. The shorter fins are far less work than those ones you have, long fins = hard workout. Agreed on the turning using fins, takes a bit of practice!. I only fly fish though, and IMHO the oars would be a pita, different than lure fishing. I used it for the first time last week on a wee Ayrshire hill loch, it's bloody magic! I was on the water for over 6 hours, and I had to force myself off the water!. Back out on it tomorrow, canny wait. All the best Douglas. Greg.

Cheers Greg, I was given the advise that the longer fins are better and require less finning to get you from A to B. Good to get someone else’s opinion on the fins tho. I plan to do a bit of fly fishing in some of the smaller lochs too. Thanks for the comment mate👍

@PiscatorUK-Fishing Aye, they'll propel you along faster, but will take lots of energy to keep you from drifting too fast. If ye fancy a corking wee hill loch, gimme a shout, I guarantee ye plenty trout! 😁

Hi there just letting anyone else that use the float tube the easiest way to turn with a tube is to lean over like you were on a skateboard this inturn tilts your legs and flippers and yes with practice you can literally turn on a sixpence with practice

@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing Жыл бұрын
I think it will all depend on what kind of waders you use and time of year. I use an old neoprene diving dry suit that I cut the top off and made into waders, I use them for river fishing in the winter and never get cold. As your legs and feet are moving most of the time on the float tube, I think this helps keep the circulation moving in your feet too.

It's interesting and educational for people who can afford that sort of big boys toy!! I'd prefer a canoe myself but I can't afford one of them so it's shore fishing only for myself, I'm all on the look out for either a second had Canon for 2 or a kayak but it's a bit difficult cuz I live on the island so their's a limited amount of people who would part with them for the price I could afford, I do always keep my eyes open cuz their's some excellent rock marks around castletown Bay where just being a hundred yards future than casting difference and instead of the Average fish being about 2lb and they average at 4lb but can and have gone to double figures all their's a couple of marks you can only fish with a kayak or canoe but they have produced some big cod and the occasional plaice n flounder "flatfish I've got a personal vendetta against cuz I personal have never landed one in 38 years or fishing I've come close had one nearly in my hand but it fell off the hook over the side of the pier and add insult to injury my m8 caught a 2lb plaice minutes b4 on a rod I'd rigged baited n casted, we didn't even see it bite and it online started fighting on the surface must have been half asleep!! Anyway good shoe to keep people in the know m8 , you should do a flatfish/beach casting video it would be interesting as it's how I often fish 🐟 😉

Thanks for the question mate. Anchoring on the float tube is not something I’ve thought about. I don’t really like staying in one spot too long. You can stay in position on the tube without an anchor even in a strong wind.

Don’t agree with much of this. I have 2 of these Savage Gear Tubes and they are great. Took all of an hour and half to get used to it. I fish for loch Salmon with mine, sometimes in 25Mph winds, and feel really safe. These are great. Only problem is they are heavy to carry, if you are walking more than 15 mins to a venue. Great for fitness, but there is a knack to it, helps if you are reasonably fit.

Thanks for commenting John, I actually love being on the float tube but it definitely wasn’t as easy as it looks but It is super stable. good on you for going out in strong winds, to be honest I don’t know how you manage, I wouldn’t go gout in 25mph winds on a SIB with an engine never mind a float tube.
@johnmaclean9318
@johnmaclean9318 7 ай бұрын
Being from Lewis, strong winds are common. What I do in a heavy breeze is walk with the tube to the top of the drift and let the wind take you down using fins as brakes. Another tip is to relax your legs when paddling.

I'm at a loss becausevive followed you and done some stuff you talked of but got heehaw, an hour at a freaking docking place long abandoned and I saw more and caught more than I ever did copying you at the narrows. I doubt you had a nuke sub cause the water there was 10 inches deep all the way to arran
