Hi m8 hope its not stupid question. I'm going out Friday. I really liked the look of olivetts. Looks nice and neat. If I'm using a 2g float it a 2g olivetts? I'm thinking using float stops either end.
@PiscatorUK-Fishing15 күн бұрын
@@johndunsmore430 hi John, no problem mate, a 2 gram float should support a 2gram weight. I like have a verity of olivett weights as I like to use shot below the olivett for presentation depending on the flow. So for 2gram float I’d have 1.75?olivet and some shot. But it’s just personal preference and what you’re comfortable with. Using float stops depends on the Type of float. If using a thin wire or carbon stem float silicone and float rubbers work better and still easily adjustable. What kind of floats are you thinking about using?

@@PiscatorUK-Fishing Hey mate - thanks again for the vid :). FYI I followed the recipe - except for the salt, as i used what I had for the salt ie. 270gm of flaky sea salt - rinsed portions, patted dry - but it ended up just a bit too salty. So I am thinking of halving the salt amount - thoughts? TIA and again awesome vid, as I reckon I am 80% to where I want it to be :) PS: I see others soak their fish in clean water for 1hr after brining - thoughts?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing13 күн бұрын
@MrDriller9000 cheers, I’m disappointed for you buddy certainly don’t want to be wasting good salmon if it’s not right although it would make excellent patty if it’s too salty. It can be trial and error unfortunately and some factors can play a part with the final product like the thickness of the fillets/portions. You can reduce salt quality or reduce time brining. I think soaking the fillets in clean water is counter productive in my opinion it’s about removing moisture for curing not adding moisture. Hope this makes sense buddy
@MrDriller900013 күн бұрын
@@PiscatorUK-Fishing Appreciate the response - and its all good, as the salmon is good with tomato and crackers in terms of balancing the salt out :) And yep I will reduce the salt for the next one - your vid is excellent and I reckon I am almost there with your help, just a couple of minor tweaks needed :)

@@Saltwater.Angling.Ireland the rod rest is a Lineaeffe but I wouldn’t recommend it, the leg extend clams have started to rust and it’s only a Matter of time before they break. I would go for, akios sea legs or Ian Gold match 6’ or 7ft
@Saltwater.Angling.Ireland27 күн бұрын
@PiscatorUK-Fishing I actually have an iann Golds tripod at the moment, but one or two components on it, such as the screws rusted up really quick and snapped. Which I'm sure is down to a fault of mine, but I'm determined not to let it happen again. I have a new replacement coming for the broken piece thankfully, but I'm interested in a second tripod anyway as I take friends to the coast fishing now that I'm driving, so it would be handy. @PiscatorUK-Fishing oh yeah I heard they are quite good in the way the cups are spaced out more and gives your reels more space. I find that I have the issue on my tripod sometimes where the reel handles get stuck behind the main leg. Not a huge problem but definitely would be nice to have it resolved. I may have to take the chance of trying something new

What rod do you fish your bombarda on Make, length, weight etc as I have been using my fox pike rod with a 45 g bombarda and although I can throw it out for miles I tend to find after a few casts my arms ready for falling off 😂😂 It’s far too heavy for me It’s just to give me an idea of what rods to look at Thanks 👍
@PiscatorUK-FishingАй бұрын
Hi Mick, the rod I used in this video was a Rovex captive 11ft 20-50grm, not sure if they make them anymore but it was also a bit heavy going after a couple of hrs. A 10ft rod will do mate. I’ve used an 11ft feeder rod over the past year or so using the bombarda with great success, which is in some of my more recent videos. I just got a 10ft Shimano Satana 10-40grm £60. It’s nice and light and I’ll be using it next year with the bombarda.

Superb video! Nevertheless it makes me feel sad to see you fishing for Grayling in winter. Here in Switzerland we have fished for ages in winter with special kind of Centre pin reels (much more filigran but bigger than the ones used in the UK), but our great tradition fishing for winter Grayling is gone by the world wide heating effect. We lost not only our our extraordinary good Grayling but also our trout stocks only within the last 10-15 years due to water temperatures in summer up to 28.5 degrees. It‘s very depressing , because I was born and grew up from early childhood with Grayling trotting in Winter on River Rhein, Reuss, Limmat, Aare and many more Rivers, but this is now over for ever, the Grayling stocks as plenty they was in past are gone ….. and only big Chubs and Barbel stocks have left behind which, becoming recently a new predator on their sites …. The big catfish (up to 2 meter 50 centimeters tall) It‘s like a bad movie where the Story is about an Aliens invasion!😢

Thanks for commenting buddy, we are privileged to catch such wonderful grayling here in our Scottish rivers.

in Switzerland we were appreciating Graylings very high, already when Graylings were recognized in UK as a poor Coarse-fish (check-out old english fishing books), but all this love and all the stocking programs to protect this kind of Salmonid, was unfortunately powerless against the worldwide heating effect. Wish you not the same experience in good old Scotland!! Tight-lines Steve
