Hi there! New subscriber and pretty new poker player here, enjoying your content, and NorCalPoker's as well! Fun to see the streams crossing ;) My question for you... other than just increasing your pre-flop bet sizing a blind or two at a time each round, do you have any advice about how to get a feel of the table you're on and how much of a pre-flop bet they can tolerate? I've noticed some tables can handle only 3x the BB before everyone folds but others I have to put in 10+BB or I have a big ole family pot.
@dougmccuskerpoker6 ай бұрын
Usually in the first round or two you can determine how many callers on average are seeing the flop. Then adjust your opening size to the number of players you would like to see preflop. Some tables players over call a lot, charge them for more.

12:50 _there is a live six, and the action player puts in a dead 20_ ?? What this all mean? Can this be translated into a poker language?
@KenDavis-uo8kq7 ай бұрын
I think the live six is a straddle and the dead twenty is a blind raise to twenty…. I think that’s what he’s saying. The six is live because they have yet to act and can come over the top, the twenty is dead because he can’t act if no one reopens the betting. Make sense?

The $6 straddle has option to raise, but the $20 blind raise does not. They only allow 1 straddle, some casinos have unlimited straddles.

NorCal: I commented on his vlog that I thought you bluffed him off his hand. 😊 Good bluff. I like the range comparison.
@dougmccuskerpoker7 ай бұрын
Using your perceived range is one of the best ways to effectively bluff. He was on to it, but eventually folded.
@keithb40777 ай бұрын
Doug, thank you for allowing us to see the other end of that hand with NorCalPoker. I've been waiting for the big reveal; that was such in interesting spot. It was fun for me (and other viewers, I hope) to break down the hand from the other seat. I took way too much time to tank from the comfort of my office chair, but I finally calculated that the most probable holdings for Villain Doug, as played, were AJ or 99, and that the right play was a very loose call. (I truly believed I was wrong, and that you would indeed reveal a set or straight). Thank you again for the enlightening collab with NorCalPoker; this is next level poker vlogging!
@dougmccuskerpoker7 ай бұрын
It was a very interesting hand indeed. It’s would be hard to turn a hand as strong as AJ into a bluff. Normally you just make a crying call. Weaker holdings and made hands in my range would jam. Alex was in a tough spot and suspected some level of theft. It’s still tough to make that call with my perceived range. We spoke of the hand, I recommended playing it faster just like I did later that day with QQ.

On the 99 hand, what was the plan if the river was a 9? Assume you face the same river bet.
@KenDavis-uo8kq7 ай бұрын
Probably jam. What’s he losing to? JJ very unlikely to check turn and not many 8,5 in his range and those probably often bet turn. Maybe T,8 but some of those would probably also bet turn picking up double gut shot. That said, there’s many value hands Doug beats. That’s my armchair quarterback analysis, anyway lol. I’m no poker expert but I think it’s a mistake to check turn with KK.
@jaykoni7 ай бұрын
@@KenDavis-uo8kq Perhaps, perhaps not. The board texture is almost unchanged, if you want a fold on an 8, but a call on a 9, you're engaging in wishful thinking, not poker. Given the reads, with a 9, you want the call and not getting it loses value.

@@jaykoni might wanna reconsider your statement, bud. We agree a river 9 wouldn’t change the board much (your statement). You never revealed what Alex folded. Since you already know, I think the right move for your vlog was to say what it was. I’m aware that you’re trying to get people to go to his vlog to see it. While that’s a noble thought process, I think your own followers deserve for it to be revealed by you. Between your two choices, I think your own followers should be the bigger priority. Just my opinion.
@dougmccuskerpoker7 ай бұрын
I watched his vlog and he had KK. My play was made because the range I thought he had beat my 99. 3 combos of JJ, the rest are top pair or over pairs. I didn’t care which one of the 1 pair hands he had. The bluff worked because my range was stronger than his. I didn’t have a reveal when he folded, I didn’t need one. It’s the thought process that matters.
@kmdskins7 ай бұрын
@@dougmccuskerpoker I love your vlog Doug but, I had no problem with the way that you played the hand. You played the hand really well. I was just pointing out that I thought your viewers were better off having you reveal to us what he was holding since you told us you knew. No worries.
