Here are some tips on getting a bird onto a healthy diet: Sprout seeds, it is super easy and flock talks has a video on it. Once they prove to you they can eat sprouts or that they can eat something that isn't seeds stop giving them unsprouted seeds. Then give them only sprouts for a couple of days, and after that, start putting a little bit of sprouts on top of chop. Then they probably wont eat it all at once they will only eat the sprouts. So put the bowl in their cage and leave them in their for a while, like while you are at school or work. Slowly add less sprouts. This will only work if they have not had unsprouted seeds for a while. For getting them onto pellets, use an unhealthy pellet. Like Zupreem fruit blend. It is not healthy that is why they love it. My cockatiel likes the bigger zupreem fruit pellets. Since cockatiels are natural ground foragers I put her on a water proof mat used for changing babies diapers, (clean of course) and but zupreem fruit blend pellets and her healthy pellets on the mat and she eats mostly the zupreem pellets, but also the healthy pellets. What I am going to do next is slowly ween her on to healthy pellets. She is almost converted. This is what worked for my cockatiel, it will not work for every bird, but i have found when I give her unsprouted seeds after not having them for a few days, she wont eat anything but seeds. She hasn't seen unsprouted seeds in her bowl in weeks and she is starting to really eat healthier. She ate mostly sprouts for a while though.

I don't weigh my Quaker regularly, but whenever I've done it, I just sprinkle some of his favourite treats on the digital scale, reset the display to zero and he just hops on and starts eating. He's a really wary bird as well, so I was surprised how easy this process was for the both of us! My way is a lot quicker than Courtneys way, but maybe I'm just lucky with my boy
@viktor679904 жыл бұрын
I just put his perch with stand on top of the scale and press tare. Then just lure him onto the perch with seeds. Took me about 2 minutes. No chances to make him sit on the strange surface of modern digital scales. I just know that :D My backup plan was to use weights and his favourite ring he loves to sit on.

This worked for one of mine, but my other one wouldn't have any part of it :( I ended up finding an alternative solution though, she loves baths, so I put a bowl of water on the scales & she happily jumped in :) Surprised how heavy she is actually, she's a plucker, so I guess that's why she looks so much skinnier than my other one, but there's only 10 grams difference between them

Do you have any app recommendations for tracking your bird's weight so you can see the changes over time? I am not a fan of the BirdTricks app - the weight tracking bit feels poorly developed, and the app itself is kind of clunky and bloated.

How do I make my budgie lose weight? He has been 70g! Chonky boi Speckles weighs as much as a cocatiel
@Hello-xm6wi4 жыл бұрын
Something that might help you is recall training where they fly to you or different places, leaving them out their cage for a longer time, and measuring how much food they get in a day. Hope this helped 💕
@Deluge40004 жыл бұрын
@@Hello-xm6wi I'll call him over and over "Speckles, come here" and he'll only come if he feels like it, but the clever little bugger flies as fast as he can to me the moment I say the magic words "Budgie want some.. FOOD?". He spends most of the day flying to and from the perches set up in the different rooms, chewing through grasses I bring in and natural tree branches, or just hanging out with his best friend Freckles. I measure and limit his seeds, and he's always cooperative on the scales when I weigh him every 2-3 days.
@Hello-xm6wi4 жыл бұрын
@@Deluge4000 I saw that you said that you measure they’re seeds but I think the seeds might be the problem. Try chopped up veggies with seeds mixed in. After that you can try some pellets. You could also use target training to tell them to move all over the place.

When I tern off the lights with my birds they stop chirping

@ris80654 жыл бұрын
Don’t just turn off the lights on them when they’re screaming. There are some ways to make them scream less but birds are *going* to scream and you decided you wanted to invite that into your home. You have to be very careful when training them not to scream and you almost never want to use plus punishment (adding something like a spray bottle, yelling, turning off the lights, etc) minus punishment is much more effective with parrots (where you take something away. *Do not just take things like toys and water and perches. Or food for more than a like 8 hour period. Those are required for their basic happiness* but if your birds likes you, you could leave when they start screaming and come back when they’re quiet. Or if they don’t like you as much you could leave when they’re calm and quiet or take a few steps back like “you did good, see how I’m giving you space?” This can take a long time and isn’t foolproof but it’s one of the healthiest methods of training parrots to be quieter.
@tzxazrael4 жыл бұрын
imagine you have 18 PEOPLE who are over visiting and having conversations. this is what your birds are doing. it's possible to train them to be quietER, but asking them to just be silent isn't realistic, or good for them. how did you get 18 of them without realizing they're going to be noisy?
