Yes the perception in your mind has changed and that's a major thing. But it's not just perception, circumstances have changed too. The stakes are now higher. That said, it's still the exact same walking of the plank. It's no harder than crossing it on land, only in your mind. Poignant.

@MichielVoogt6 жыл бұрын
Well, not only does the perception of the plank changes, the consequence changes as well. If you fall, you will get hurt. Just as in gym. In training, if you tap, you just slap hands and roll again. If you tap in a big match you're out.
@denbro17706 жыл бұрын
Excellent comment.

Yeah, but it's very important to remember, that loss in competition is not the end of the world either. He talks more about mental safety net, that wil allows people to avoid additional pressure.
@Dannibalcorpse6 жыл бұрын
both are equally valid ways to view the same event. The plank up high may have greater consequences, but if you must cross it, it might be more advantageous to see it as the same plank you cross every day. That perspective may make you more relaxed, less stiff, and therefore, less inclined to fall. The difference is that those who are successful embrace mindsets that breed success.

The plank parable is a good analogue for training and fighting. If you fall from a plank on the ground, nothing happens. If you fall from a plank between two buildings, you get seriously injured or die. Just like you can make a mistake in training and get away. In a match or fight you face a real chance of getting hurt and embarrassed.

Brilliant! The only difference is the risk - I assume with the plank very high the risk of injury or death is also high - but I love the mindset. I used to use this taking penalty shots in soccer/Futbol - I would always look away from the crowd & pretend I was at practice. Great stuff, professor...
