Iwamoto-San is a B-talent. He looks like Tonoma, (not Tonon), a character from a 1970’s famous graphic novel “dokaben”. Tonoma is ugly and weird. He’s not a super hero or everyone’s favorite player but he's an idiosyncratic person who does his tricks in an unconventional way and pulls off unexpected successes. He can’t play A+ games but consistently scores B++ to be recognized as someone of importance. Iwamoto-San was a science major at Waseda University, a very competitive private college in Japan. Not the best, not the most elite, but Waseda is a B+ school that makes most people think you’re academically outstanding. And now he trains at B team where there’s no Olympic level athletes, no judo/wrestling world champ, no Gracie or Danaher, and no complimentary Gatorade. The best part of B is you have nothing to lose.
