The sound on good earphones is quite remarkable....the images are lovely...but I do say this as I'm sure many folk may miss this special vlog...good earphones or speakets improve this heaps. A classic of a vlog imho.

So many people just watch these on their phones, with tiny tinny little speakers. I usually mix the sound whilst listening through headphones.

More heavy rain forecast on Monday 2nd April so please stay safe. It’s going to be a few days before water subsides. Thanks for sharing your excellent video 👍🏻 Trev

What a contrast with conditions now, nearly 5 months later when lack of that wet stuff is causing headaches.

We are moored in Banbury and were hoping to continue south...looks like we're in Banbury for a few days

The water levels appear to have dropped a tiny bit overnight. But still too high for moving. Will check properly later.

Narrowboat Journeys thank you

The levels have come down very slightly from yesterday but still too high for navigation I would say.

Narrowboat Journeys ...that's what we thought. Sigh...Thanks for letting me know.

A narrowboat with nothing on its roof has just tried to get through Nell bridge. They failed.

That is a trifle damp. Definitely wellies conditions. For some odd reason I brought my wellies here with me when we moved. Mind you, I wish I had been wearing them today on our dog walk in the dry river beds, instead of my old trainers with worn smooth soles. I slipped going down a bank and ended up with a nasty scratch down my wrist and gravel rash on my knee.

Very easily done!

JP in Fuerteventura hi JP, I see you comment on most of the videos I’m watching today and yesterday. I guess, like me, you’re also binge watching. 😘

Well that's one in the eye, for anyone who disrespects the wellies.

Good bit of erosion happening at 1:50 or so. Please watch for bank failures. Cheers

I will be the first to know if there is a major breach.

2:51 Is that a weir dumping the excess canal water into the river?
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it tries to keep the canal level constant but on that day the river was flowing into the canal nearby so there was too much water for it to cope with.

If it gets any worse, you will have to swap your wellies for flippers. I always thought the Oxford had problems of lack of water especially in the Summer, mind you that might have been rectified over the years. Take care.

March last year I traveled many miles with no problems at all. Not so lucky this year.

How has the canal flooded? Is it fed from the River? I thought canals self regulated their levels through the bywashes at locks.
@NarrowboatJourneys6 жыл бұрын
The river Cherwell has burst its banks and is flowing into the canal. The canal can't handle that much water.
@johnbuckley57616 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that. Looks pretty bad and hope you are tied up safe!

How many times in 28 years have you gone for an unplanned dip in the canal? ( Also known as falling in 😂 )
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
Never! (so far)

@@NarrowboatJourneys Good to hear. In almost every other narrowboat channel they always mention falling in at some point.

Isn't the river's name pronounced "Charwell"? (Like Derby is pronounced "Darby")
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
You could be right, but after living in that area for the best part of 30 years I never heard anyone pronounce it that way.

Oh wow, this is how the banks get breached...
@NarrowboatJourneys6 жыл бұрын
There are various parts of the Oxford canal towpath that have been eroded like this. The CRT does not usually repair or resurface it, and so we have to walk over jagged rocks and bricks etc.
@robinturner23006 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what happened to the stretch of canal near Tiverton in Devon a few years ago. In our case the bank was eroded so fast it dumped the entire stretch into neighbouring fields. It's poor level management and should be avoided by using sluices
