Hi there everyone, thanks for tuning-in today - its been a pretty crazy week here...a picture (or ten) is worth a thousand words, so let's take a walk around the property together for what I believe you'll agree is an eye-popping update.

Your guide is Journeyman Falconer Joanne Bentley, a practitioner with over 15 years experience in the handling and schooling of birds-of-prey, and her support-team of assistants including Joseph Norris, Andrew & Megan Lemon, Chris Wright, and Bruce Lane.
With light-hearted humour and a gentle, informational approach, Jo will guide you in understanding the techniques of “winning” one’s Feathered-companion - first in earning their willingness to work with us, then - in our case - to work for the eye of the camera.
Jo's desire is to inspire established and new participants, wildlife enthusiasts, birders, and the wider public. This passionate Journeyman Falconer seeks to inform and introduce humanity to the intangible “living human-heritage” (UNESCO 2010) to which every one of us may lay claim through the Art of Falconry.
Thank you for watching!

Good evening Cathy; The fact everybody here is safe and well is something we're _completely_ grateful for, for sure...the first night of the flooding I was concerned the ground water/runoff from the snow melt was "backing up" under the foundation as the exposed dirt-floor in the pump-room was damp... By the next morning - thankfully - it was evident I wouldn't be having to figure out how to get a 600+ pound treadmill upstairs by myself. 😉 I'd be grateful to you if you'd share this on your social-media portals, particularly if you're on Facebook. If you do, please tag BC's Premier, John Horgan, and our environment minister, Doug Donaldson. We're having a difficult time getting the message onto the desks of the people who can help us, and I'd be entirely grateful for your support. Hope things are good where you are - stay safe. Best, Jo

Jo, stay strong and positive as always, the help you need will come! Hope you have a few bottles of wine tucked away for just such an emergency! Thankfully the house and the mews are out of the danger zone!

Good evening Richard; Yes - the house and mews are safely above the level of the floodwaters, so I'm certainly grateful for that. 😊 How are things on your side of the water...? Best, Jo

Hi, hope it is not to bad. We in europa had the opposite. A heavy drought. No rain since March. Weather in turmoil. I hope you get the bridge soon. Greets from the otherside of the pond. CHARLIE

Good evening Charlie; I certainly hope you receive sustained rainfall soon - drought conditions are at in many ways more frightening than what we're going through! I'm looking at doing a live-chat in a few days, so please keep an eye on your notifications so you can join us. 😉 Best, Jo

As we say here Kia kaha, be strong.......hopefully you’ll have some sort of access soon, since you are, as you say, effectively cut off atm. Don’t worry too much about videos, deal with your immediate situation first....we’ll keep. All the best, for getting this resolved as soon as possible.

Good evening catz Keet; Thank you for the support...this is definitely a challenging experience, especially given we (now) know a liaison has been assigned to our specific area, but there's no indication as to when someone will come out, eyeball the aftermath of the flooding, and pull the proverbial trigger on getting a quick solution sorted out. 😐 I'm looking at doing a live-chat in a couple of days, so hopefully that'll make up for not having a "Team Feathers" focused episode posted today. I hope you and yours are staying safe - stay tuned, great stuff on its way. Best, Jo

Joanne: I don't know what to say. So, glad you are both safe. We never saw water levels that high, not even close. Have you managed to arrange a way off "the island" perhaps through Granberg's or East towards Bridge Lake? There is also an old road out the back (SW Corner) that could get you to HWY 24 but might need clearing. Wow. I can't believe it.

Good evening Marshall; Great to hear from you - we wondered if you'd ever seen anything like this while the two of you were stewarding 'Falcon's Rest'. We'll take the quad out tomorrow and see if the back road might be usable - thank you for the head's up! Planning a live-chat for later this week, so please keep an eye on your notifications - would love to have you join us. 😊 In the meantime, please share this episode on your social media portals, and tag John Horgan and Doug Donaldson - take care! You and your birds are looking great. Do you have enough opening for a helicopter? You need some culverts or a bridge.
@TheFalconLady
@TheFalconLady 4 жыл бұрын
Good evening Ron; Long time no hear - I hope your and your family are safe and well. 😊 We could indeed land a helicopter out on the 'Rest (the grassland-space on the property), however I'm thinking the 'powers that be' aren't likely to put something like that in place given the associated expense. We persuaded the adjacent farmer to allow us to drive our vehicles - *once* - through his fields so we could bring them around to the opposite side of the driveway, then built a temporary footbridge for ourselves (since no personnel at the local "emergency management" level seem to have in any way taken our situation seriously). Please *do* tag our Premier, John Horgan, and our Environment Minister, Doug Donaldson, on your Facebook page, Ron, and ask them when we can hope for their assistance in helping us procure a new bridge. I'd definitely appreciate it. Best, Jo

Hi there kevicus first; Perhaps surprisingly, I never felt "panicked" when the water took out the bridge...it was a strange sense of calm, informed in no small part (I think) by the knowledge there was absolutely _nothing_ I could do to stop Mother Nature from her 'work'. By the way...what is "manerng"...??? Best, Jo

guessing this is all snow melt?
@TheFalconLady
@TheFalconLady 4 жыл бұрын
Good evening AssassinMods; The short answer is a resounding "yes". The Regional snow-pack at the end of winter was 127% of normal; staff at the CRD (Capital Regional District) tell me this is a "one in two-hundred year flood" phenomena...yay... 🤔 So... I'd be entirely grateful to you if you'd share this on your social-media portals, and tag our Provincial Premier, John Horgan, as well as BC's Environment Minister, Doug Donaldson. The Feathered and I would definitely be grateful for a hand in getting attention on our situation. Take care, Jo
