That was brilliant! Do the coaches get a similar breakdown from the judges, so they know what the problem areas/skills are?

I dont think they formally get advice/'receipts' from judges at competitions but usually judges from their own country will give advice on routine construction and problematic skills

Can someone help me understand the difference between lack of landing precision and lack of balance deductions? To me they seem to mean the same thing, but I assume the code makes a distinction? Thank you! And thanks so much for these videos, I'm learning so much!
@FlipFlyTumble4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching I'm glad it helps :)) precision is for under or over turned dance elements (leaps, jumps, turns) and lack of balance is basically landing deductions for dance elements like extra steps, hops or wobbles or being off balance on a turn.
@MossyBallerina4 жыл бұрын
I love seeing the breakdown of all the little details! I wish the judging wasn't quite so harsh, though. It seems like it's pretty much impossible to get abot the 8.5-8.7 E score range. If no one, even the best gymnasts in the world, can get less than a point in deductions (excluding vault, since that's a bit different), it seems to me like the judging is overly harsh. Also, I'm curious: back in the days of perfect 10s, how was execution judged? Since people were able to ger 10.0 scores, in addition to not having a separate D score, the E score must have been judged less harshly.
@mrparts Жыл бұрын
judging needs to be very harsh, so the the truly virtuous gymnasts get rewarded.
@MossyBallerina Жыл бұрын
@@mrparts If such gymnasts actually existed, then I would agree, but no one has E scores in the 9.0+ range anymore. Looking at the 2023 Worlds, the highest E scores on each event (excluding vault, since that always has higher E scores) were 8.466 for uneven bars, 8.3 for balance beam and 8.4 for floor. When the best gymnasts in the world are getting more than a point andd a half in deductions, it just seems silly to have such harsh judging. What's the point of having the E score judged out of 10 when literally no one achieves anything close to that?
@mrparts Жыл бұрын
@@MossyBallerina the 10 scale is a completely arbitrary number chosen just for simplicity. It could have been 20, or a 100. What matters for the scoring system is the correct ranking of athletes. You could decrease the deductions to 0.01 for each small error to create the illusion that the best gymnasts are now scoring 9.90+ in execution, so close to perfection, , but the routines are exactly the same, nowhere near “perfection”.

True question on the Silivas : I would have guessed .3 for chest position, would it be fair or really too harsh ?
@FlipFlyTumble4 жыл бұрын
0.3 is for when the head is at the knees/ankles so it would probably be too harsh for this landing

"Missing movement touching floor" is that the reason that every gymnast rolls around on the floor at some point? I think the only gymnast I can't recall do that is Lilia Podkopeyva, so how did she get exempt? Were the rules different then?
@bluepanther10133 жыл бұрын
The rules were different.
@asherraymond44304 жыл бұрын
Cleaning up the landings and making sure she gets the feet pointed in the tumbling would bring her execution up to only around 1.0 in deductions ALONE, and those are easy fixes! She could totally put up a number on the floor in Tokyo.
@mrparts4 жыл бұрын
Flexed feet in acrobatic skills is very very hard to fix this late in the game. At this late stage, most benefit to scoring is avoid landing short ( and preventing injury,)
@FlipFlyTumble4 жыл бұрын
@@mrparts yeah it is hard to focus on pointing your toes in hard tumbles. not many can do it.
@FlipFlyTumble4 жыл бұрын
i feel like it's almost impossible to get under 1.0 in deductions because landings are so unpredictable and minor deductions add up as well. anything in the 8.5+ area would already be amazing !

Haha sorry but no, a 8.5 execution is already GREAT, her MAX E score is about that range. No way she should have or will have 8.7+ on Execution!!!
@honeyfromthebee4 жыл бұрын
Just 0.1 for the step on her front tumbling pass is, I feel, giving her the benefit of the doubt. The camera angle works to her benefit here because she's in the distance and her step is moving away from us on the diagonal, so in reality it might be 0.3...
