Henk Poor was THE Dutch Phantom of the Opera from the 1990s production of the musical in Holland. Floor was a huge fan of his as a teen (and still is!). This duet was on her Bucket List of life achievements.

The show's concept was really neat. They are all singers in their own rights (hence the title) and each week, one of them has the spotlight and sit in the center couch. Then the others sing songs that the person on the couch either wrote or that has a meaning for them. I recommend that you react to Emma Heesters (the pretty blonde in the red dress) singing "Strong" for Floor. Floor originally wrote it when she was with After Forever for her mom who suffered (and still suffers) from painful bouts of rhumatism and it's a very emotional song for Floor.

The formula of the TV show in a nutshell is that seven great singers from different genres cover each others songs, basically to honour each other and to share the love for music. Each episode one singer sits in the spotlight while he others sing songs from his or her reportoire. The last episode is always the duet episode and this was Floor’s choice. Henk is the Dutch opera singer who was the original Dutch Phantom and Floor is a fangirl 😉. So when she found out that Henk would be in the show with her she immediately said: I want to sing The Phantom of the opera with Henk! Henk happily agreed under the condition that he would get to sing the song again on stage with Nightwish! Floor agreed! And I can’t wait! 😉

That's an 8-second D6! This is Nightwish's version of the song. Henk sang distortion just for her. 👍 Henk Poort originated the role of the Phantom in the Netherlands. He was one of Floor's idols growing up, so singing this duet with him was a real treat for her. If I remember correctly Henk stated in the show that he has performed Phantom of The Opera something like 600 times when it was on the stage in the Netherlands. Floor saw him perform it at that time when she was in her teens.

Now it's time to watch his version (Disturbed style) of Sound of Silence where he sang with distortion for the very first time, specially for Floor. And he nailed it!!

This was the final duet (duets were on the final show) but you have like 7 weeks prior .. each show one singer (everyone there are Dutch singers .. pop, salsa etc etc) one singer sits center couch and the other singers do a number that is theirs, means a lot to them etc. Floor was relatively unknown in the Netherlands before this show (what is the old saw about that ..something about not being known in your own country?) .. Floor is not longer unknown. This blew the top off of Netherland music appreciation. Good stuff. Not just Floor .. and yes .. I love her from afar .. but the other singers are ALL great and well worth watching.

This show is a group of Dutch performers, different singing styles and back grounds.. They each research the backgrounds, careers, and lives of the others in the group,, One singer each week is "On The Couch" where the others, one at a time, sing to them a song that is either, a song that they wrote, or a song that is somehow very special in their personal life for some reason. They each take turns talking about the song they have chosen to perform for them. Not watching the full episode you miss this dialog of why these songs are so special to the individual on the couch, the dialog brings a degree of personal understanding that pulls the viewing audience in far beyond just the performances..

Yeah, they used the Nightwish arrangement of it from back in 2002 but with a bit more traditional musical theatre vocal style. Floor hasn't sung it with Nightwish yet, but I expect that will change in the next tour because she and Henk made a deal that he will sing this with her in the band's Netherlands shows. :D

I watch this show every year on dutch tele but this year was one of the best and i like a whole lot of other dutch people never heard of Floor until this show.....that's where my obsession started hahaha this show made Floor famous in the Netherlands.....the whole world knew her allready only in her home country they didn't now she get's the credits she deserve

Great reaction, and i love how Henk always surprises people with his amazing voice, not strange tho because he happens to be the OG Phantom (he's a big name in Opera/Operetta/Musicals) I've seen people suggest you check out Emma Heester, the pretty blonde in the red dress, and i fully second that, but i am going to give a slightly different song to check out than most have (most say you need to check "Strong" and i agree you need to check that too) The song i am going to suggest has both Henk and Emma together, they sing a beautiful duet called "Vivo per lei" and just like this song, their voices match so well together. This show is a bit of "The pride of the Netherlands" because we get our favorite singers in one show, without any competition elements, its all about the music. Basically, the show honors the singers by having the singers perform for eachother, needless to say this has all the potential to create music-magic.. and it does.

I loved watching you react to this epic performance. I have watched this 100 times or more and it is always amazing. Henk Poort is an opera singer who has performed the Phantom role in many Dutch productions of this musical play. After this duet with Floor Henk asked if he could perform this song live on stage with Nightiwsh and we all hope it happens this November at one of the two sold out shows at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. You should check out all of the other Beste Zangers performances by Floor (about 5 or 6). They are all beautifully done. Many different styles of music. On this show, which ended late last year, each of the 7 Dutch singers sings a song of one of the singers who is chosen that week. The songs may be one of their own or a song which influenced them.
