He actually didn't win that year, he finished 3rd. However he came close and got a lot of points!

Thank you for your amazing reaction! All of us got speechless when we saw this for the first time. And more credits to him for doing all this while singing live. Remember you can't do playback on live perfomances in Eurovision

This should have won. In fact he won the televote, but only came 3rd overall because of the jury. Fun fact: He fell off the screen during one of the rehearsals

Yay, finally, we knew you'd love it, that's why we were so persistent :) Performers actually rehearse a lot on their own before coming to the arena, but on the Eurovision stage they get 2 rounds of technical rehearsals (first 30 min and second 20 min) and also they have 3 dress rehearsals (in the second one, the night before the live TV performance, jury from each country is watching and giving their points, which is 50% of that country's score). When it comes to this performance, I'm still not sure exactly how his climbing on the wall works lol, but at one of his early rehearsals he missed the last jump and slipped down the screen. He was ok tho. He also came back in 2019 with another stage show, but the song was not on the same level than this one. However, he came 3rd both times he competed. He should have won with this one in 2016.

I just went to check the 2016 results and I kinda forgot he did actually win the public vote, but jury of musical experts only put him in joined 5th place. When results were combined, Ukraine won the contest, having placed 2nd both with public and the jury.

The winner was Ukraine, with "1944" by Jamala. The runner up was Australia with "the sound of silence" by Dami Im. Just in case you want to check why the did it better. Actually 2016 was such a great edition that you should watch the whole show with the opening and the interval act. Best hosts ever and high level among the participating countries. 2016 was the first year where Eurovision was broadcasted in the US.

2016 was my least favorite winner of all time....

@@andimusicjunkie3990 haha wasn't my favorite either at that time but when I remember 2011 and 2017 it doesn't sound that bad for me.

@@ronnopotter 2016 and 2017 are the least deserved followed by 2011. Russia deserved it in 2016, Bulgaria in 2017, and 2011 was quite a week year really.

Thank you Sergey is a great singer! See also his live video, he sings and dances beautifully and has a strong charisma)

Agree. This should have been the winner. But as usual politics in eurovision is more important than performance
@terjemullerkarlsen302824 күн бұрын
Fun fact: The "climbing" is done by the fact that the wall is tilted backwards on the top with a cloth covering the screen which the video is projected on to. This leaving Sergey the possability to climb steps hidden behind the curtain.

Sergey Lazarev is a legend in Eurovision and a master of visuals. Though he deserves to win, we can't let i happen because then he might not enter Eurovision again.

Yes, the performance was absolutely amazing and will be hard to top for years. The song itself isn't a song Juries give the highest points to (and Eurovision is still a SONG Contest), that's the reason the emotional Jamala wins in 2016.

One of few times being inspired by the winner from the year before was a success. 2015 was such a strong year so I think the screen Sweden used seemed to be an important part of why they won. I’m in no way saying Heroes was a bad song, but when it was competing with songs like Rhythm Inside (🇧🇪), Tonight Again (🇦🇺 I mean what a debut), Warrior (🇬🇪) and Grande Amore (🇮🇹) just to name a few I think it was important.
