Netrebko chose to focus on her operatic training and when it comes to her profession Floor is unable to reach Netrebko's level of proficiency. Sure, she beats her at rock style but not when it comes to opera. Let me add that I do love listening to both Netrebko and Floor.

If she was exclusively trained to be an opera singer, she would be awesome. However, I am sure she wouldn't be such a versatile singer as she is now. I talked with a classically trained singer, and she told me that a lot of her colleagues have trouble singing contemporary styles... so, if Floor focused only on classical singing studies, she probably wouldn't be able to all these singing styles we appreciate her for.

That is 100% truth. In this video Jansen defends very well, but for a trained ear who knows will identified that she still lacks many harmonics to hers voice and also that is not well executed in fact she can not hold the notes because she has poor diaphragmatic support. but she made a good crossover work, not a opera area. When one becomes a professional in opera singing, it can not penetrate in other styles cos probably they loses the technique. Sorry my english is horrible :/

@@Laviesurladentelle you're right about her classical voice is no well trained as many opera singers, but you can't say that she has a bad air support. To sing the way she sings, it's extremely important to be able to use well the diaphragm, also the air support, otherwise you can't achieve low and high notes. Actually, to sing well and sustain notes for a long period, we need to have a great support. A good diaphragm control allows you to sing soft, to sing heavy and also high, and helps you not to crack the voice during the song,which she does brilliantly. Maybe you think that I'm like those crazy fans, who tries to defend the artist it any cost, but I'm trying to explain you something more technical, cuz I'm a singer and also I'm taking a lot of vocal lessons. In any style we decide to develop our voice to sing, the air support is the first thing we should support, otherwise we will hurt our vocal cords. The way Floor sings, if she hasn't a bad air support, probably she would be able to keep singing and hold a 2 hours concert without losing her voice completely. I hope you understand my point, but if not, there's a lot of vocal coache talking about her voice and also how she mastered a lot of different styles of singing, including how perfect is her air support.

Elizabeth Charismatic Voice is an opera singer and she's done an analysis on this, and has many good things to say about Floors opera singing and delivery of this song. I don't need to defend Floor here, Elizabeth's opinion is good enough for me.

@@Laviesurladentelle The thing about diaphragmatic support is cliché bs.: you must have read somewhere that "pop singers can not hold a notes because the have poor diaphragmatic support", and thought: well, Floor Jansen is a Pop Singer, THUS she must have poor diaphragmatic support... Without even knowing what you are talking about. The FACT is namely that Floor Jansen has EXCELLENT diaphragmatic support. A.) multiple professional opera coaches have commented on this, B.) it is exactly this EXCELLENT breathing technique that enables Floor Jansen to deliver those stunning long notes and sentences without breating in for instance Ghost Love Score.. (see Live version Wacken 2013), but also many other songs. But maybe you never heard these? Please do you homework before you make such comments!

Floor does anything she likes. There are no other singers who can do all those things AND sing opera at this level of quality. And sure: true opera singers are better at pure opera. But they can not do all those other things.

OK, this is video is all about the fact that the singer for a huge metal band can also sing opera so well. But there is something about the composition of the image at the 29 second mark, the bright red of the woman's lipstick and the admiring gaze of the man all lit by a strong single light source that leaves strong shadows across their faces and deep inky shadows surrounding them that would make a great painting. I think it's a combination of a general change in the direct of Nightwish's sound, and also, I suspect Floor might be trying to move away from this more operatic sound - just going from the progression from After Forever, to ReVamp, to Nightwish.
