About this one ? Ah well, the usual, but you mentioned opera and how this sounded like it. Here's a clip from an older Dutch (classical) music oriented show in which Floor is presented as being a metal singer who's gonna perform some opera. The performance was amazing as usual, but since I'm a fan that was no big surprise, I've heard Floor singing classical/opera before. But I absolutely loved the shocked faces of the other singers on the couch 😂 They didn't know much about her, only that she was some kind of "heavy metal singer", and that was the first program and the first song. So they were all like "wait a minute, what is going on here? Who's that woman?"

When she once was asked about her versatility, she answered that she's always open for everything and joked that people shouldn't be surprised if she came up with a French rap song.

This was the first performance of the 2019 show. Most of other singers didn't knew her at all, and she did this aria (from Merry Widow operetta, in German language) with a metal touch of course, raising the bar for the entire show. You can see the surprise on their faces.. She had 1 year of classical vocal training in her youth, but she didn't continued on that path, because she already sang in her first metal band at the time. She started to sing in a band at 17 yo, and now she's 38. Her native talent was polished by 2 decades of high level singing, that's what you heard..

Not quite right, she studied 2 years (part-time) opera and musical theater after finishing her studies at the rock academy. She had no formal vocal training in her youth, which makes her performances on the early works of After Forever (listen to Prison of Desire) even more astonishing. Also she started at age 16 in After Forever. Just to mention... But her voice is the result of a combination of great talent, absolute dedication, and more than 20 years of hard work.

Gotta mention a couple of things here. First, as you know, she is singing this in German. You know it's an opera, but it's more than just that to Henk, which others have given you his background on. What you don't know: Henk is Floor's idol, so this was a privilege for her. Second, she performed this song at the conservatory she was learning her singing in. Third, Henk's mother used to sing this to Henk and his father, and make them both cry, it was that good. So for Floor to sing this and keep true to the original and make it her own, brought Henk to tears, plus reminded him of his childhood with his parents. So this was emotional to him. Fourth, this was all their reaction to Floor singing (their perception of metal singers is that they only scream and growl into the mic), because until this show, she was unknown in her own country, despite the fact that Nightwish has sold over 10 million records worldwide. You asked about versatility. She learned Que Se Siente in a week, inflections in the Spanish language and all. With Nightwish, Tuomas (the keyboardist of Nightwish) had called her up to come over to play some shows after they had to let their previous singer go for health reasons. She was given only 48 hours to learn their entire setlist. Her entire flight from Amsterdam to Seattle was learning their music. As you can tell, she's their permanent singer now. But you want to know how good she is? there you go. she's that damn good.

Let it roll off your back because your commentary and analysis always reveals that you are wise beyond your years! You are already on a higher intellectual level than those bullies. Beautiful as always. This was the first song she sang on BESTE ZANGERS , that is why the people on the couch is reacting the way they do . To them she is an unknown , until this show the people in the Netherlands did not know her. I think it is the host that had to google her to find out who she is. This show was the best thing that could have happened , not only for Floor , but for Nightwish and symphonic metal in the Netherlands. Also for the band who is now on our with her. Her solo shows currently on the go in Netherlands is a testament to her commitment to educate the masses and exposing the people of her home country to music that is not Commercial music that is played to death on commercial radio stations. And to think she has been performing sine she was a teenager . So 2 + plus years of experience is shining through when she sings and performs. Keep up the good work.

They were amazed that she sang this operatic aria "Vilja Lied" from The Merry Widow. Floor always adds a little rock vibe. Floor is amazing and has worked hard to achieve this level of perfection. It's all perfect technique! BTW this is sung in old German. Beautifully done again Chelly!

Doesn't feel like that fairy tale in which straw is turned into gold. Her talent and dedication is almost unreal. One of the aspects that makes this show so special is that the singers show their diversity and with that their abilities and talent. And she sure was shining all the way through.

She performed this song for Henk Poort, the bald elderderly guy on the couch. He is a succesful opera/operetta/musical singer, well known in The Netherlands and abroad. He will partner Floor in their famed Phantom of the Opera duet. Vilja Lied ( = Vilja's Song) is part of an operetta called Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) by composer Franz Léhar. You can consider an operetta as being a light version of an opera. This being their first confrontation with Floor's qualities as a singer, and surely most of them must have wondered what a metal chick had to contribute to the show, it easily explains how baffled the other singers were. Now just a moment back to one of your previous posts. Don't allow some jerks to bully you. Just block the bastards into oblivion. Simple as that! The fact that Floor’s clothes and make up are all black seem to tell us that she is aware of the dark history of the song and its link with metal. The operetta that this song comes from was Adolf Hitlers favourite music and its composer even made a special version of it for him. Part of the history of metal are bands like Laibach and Rammstein who flirt with this darkheimat/fauxfascist feel. I guess Floor represents the idea here that the most beautiful flowers always grow on a graveyard.

Floor is number 1 and trough this TV show, she got several number one things in Netherlands... This was this season first show and Floor was first singer. She was also last (together with Henk Poort with duet). So, we can say, Floor opened and finished this season. Before show, she was to everybody else (singers -except Tim, and the audience in their homes) just tattooed metal vocalist. You can imagine what kind of voice they were waiting... - And they got this song !!! You can see surprise faces :D, but similar faces were in many homes! Now, Floor must be most popular vocalist in Netherlands! Just a handful songs ! :D

No, it's not that easy for her. Floor has had a few years of classical training. For the rest, yeah there is such a thing as talent. But also a lot of training, training and training. In the end, she just happened to like the metal scene better. She is also a perfectionist, so... Did I mention training already? :-D

Great analysis. Here's some answers. Yes, there's something that she can't do. She can't sing wrong notes! And yes, they bullied her because of her remarkable figure, which I can't understand at all. We all can see that she's absolutely gorgeous. But when young we sometimes fear the different and bullying is result of that. Vilja lied is a song from Franz Lehar's operetta Merry widow. Ceiling-aka Irene- looks a LOT like Floor, but given what I've heard, she does not sing like her. Edit: Irene's a good singer, don't get me wrong. She just doesn't sing the same way. Floor pretty much has her own style.

This is probably the closest she got to the concept of symphonic metal on the show. A lot of the Beste Zangers stuff is still in normal range where a really talented, or trained soprano could get to. Most actual symphonic metal is very demanding even to trained pros. Nightwish even keyed down a few things done by their original singer for Floor. ( Just vocal preservation purposes. Floor has plenty of insanely high notes, but she has to think about what she can do from one concert to the next. ) I can't wait for you to know Nightwish and I love all the other Beste Zanger people. Would not mind any of those reactions either.
