The singer, Adrian Dickinson, is known as the "Human Air Raid Siren". His range is exceptional. The whole band is excellent. Steve Harris is one of the best bass players to ever throw one over his shoulder. He's a great songwriter as well. Kick ass band.

The Snowy Owl in the production is named Urho - the Nightwish Symbol. Urho was loaned to Nightwish from his zoo in Scandinavia. An owl is present in The Crow, the Owl and the Dove. This is from the Amette era. The music video will reduce you to tears. Interestingly, the Swan is central to this work, but not named in the title. Swans are central to the meaning in Dead Boys Poem. Swans have a rich history dating back centuries. Birds of all types are present in Nightwish productions. They have meanings which may not be apparent on the surface. This is the case in that the meaning of birds is not cross cultural. Example: an Owl in North American literature is different than in Scandinavian. Just another contextual layer to be aware of.

I'm sad, you missed the end :( But, otherwise very insightful reaction. Good job! I was looking for the newer songs, I'm Not a Vampire Revamped and The Drug in Me is Reimagined. You reacted to the two older songs, but not the new ones where he remade them. Revamped is a movie.

In Dutch this kind of song is called a “Smartlap” : The word refers to something like a handkerchief you cry in, dry your tears with. Dutch singers are very good in that genre. Expressing hurting inside and belching it out. We had had a singer called ‘Andre Hazes’ who made this his speciality. Half of the people in the Netherlands cried when he sang and made the other half angry (probably because they could not admit they too felt it inside). Floor is a very skilled singer and very good in expressing the story of a song. Luckily for Floor she is the lead singer of Nightwish, something she likes a lot and where she use the same skillset to the extent every time she performs. (Luckily no Dutch style “Smartlappen”.)

Floor also sings Shallow, a song done by Lady Gaga. You may want to see her sing phantom of the opera with Henke Port. Her opera voice. Then watch her sing with Nightwish for the contrast of her voice.

Marko and Troy's background harmonies on this are beautiful. Their voices blend so well with Floor's. It may be one of their 'lighter' songs, but it really gets under your skin, with an incredibly catchy chorus. In answer to your question, live performances every time, for me anyway.

It's no coincidence you picked up on her genuine empathy. Floor was diagnosed with HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) syndrome a few years back. It means she picks up on other people's emotions and state of mind very strongly, and can't help but empathise with them. She really does put her self into her performances, and audiences (and you!) pick up on that, and respond accordingly. And all that is before I even mention her vocal prowess! Floor really is a once in a generation phenomenon, and we are priveleged to be able to enjoy her craft. She has been the perfect fit for Nightwish, not only ensuring they have kept most of their old fans, but she has also brought a whole new division to the Nightwish army!

I just like the fact that you appreciate real music made from a real band!
