I use the Atlas cymbal stand by Ludwig that does that same thing, but your idea gives more height. I like it.

I just checked out the Ludwig Atlas stand, that is pretty cool. A bit shorter, but very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Really smart, I gotta try that.

This will work well for me because I'm planning on using it for an 11 inch k custom hybrid splash. Thanks!!

A splash will work nicely using this configuration.

Thanks for this! It's one of those "Why didn't "I" think of that?" ideas! I've seen a lot of "hacks" and this is great. Simple but brilliant! You got a LIke and a new subscriber John Owens Drums!

My floor tom is mounted to ride cymbal/stand🍻
@johnowensdrums6 ай бұрын
On my main kit (in most of my videos), my low tom is also attached to my ride stand. This is the flip of it, which is funny, as they both save space. Thanks for sharing.

This would’ve saved me many nights of losing my china off the drum riser 😂😂😂 great hack!!
@johnowensdrums6 ай бұрын
Originally, I had the China on a stand on this little cart and it kept falling off in the middle of a tune. This set up saved space and more importantly saved the cymbal from falling. I hope it helps with your set up.

It's an interesting concept John. Personally I would worry more about damage to the floor tom itself than the lug. I would think if you are using thick drums with lots of plys it would probably be ok. But if I mounted a very heavy cymbal on my floor tom like that it might break the wood. I've never done it though so I could be wrong.
@johnowensdrums6 ай бұрын
Honestly, that was my first concern, but so far it has held up nicely. Currently, there is a 18" K China on it, but I would not mount a 22" heavy ride. Of course, a crash-ride, splashes, Chinas, and crash cymbals seem to do well. Also, the angle is straight up, which I believe helps (it might be a different story it was angled). Thanks for the comment and keep drumming.

I’ve been doing this for about 2 years now. China cymbal and everything.
@johnowensdrums6 ай бұрын
Cool. What type of clamp and boom do you use? Also, what size is your floor tom? I'm using a 14" in this video.
@marsha10246 ай бұрын
Hi John. 16 x 16 floor tom. The exact same Gibraltar clamp w/ a little shorter knurled boom arm. I don’t mount it as high as you do. Mine sits about 4 to 6 inches above the batter head of the floor tom and below the ride cymbal. That double “knuckle” clamp is really versatile. It works great to save floor space and weight in the old trap case. Next time I set up at a gig I’ll get a picture of it and send it to you. Great channel! Love the content!

Why dont you show a close-up after you put it on? Cant see anything from here. Great idea, but not if i have to go out and buy pieces to do it.

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll keep this in mind for future videos.
