When I watched and played them, I felt like Nemley was a "One-Trick Pony" kind of developer, but looking back, I think it's more like: "I play with a concept that I like, which is a boy and a girl in a toxic relationship with acidic and black humor until I can make my Magnus Opus"

Frank baum, the writer of the wizard of oz, basically made the same story of "Some person gets transported to strange world and is trying to leave and meets strange people along the way" for most of his career, and it was enough to make enough to sustain himself

All artists have reoccurring themes that usually become deeper as time goes on. The whole “one trick pony” idea just means you’ve not looked at any artist’s “history” before. Any major project that gains traction and popularity is the result of a concept developing over time, and you’ll see it present in anything else you check out

Nemlei just used the Scott merthod. Scott worked on a lot of games before releasing FNAF and those games inspired FNAF, the same went for Nemlei. I guess we discovered the best recipe to cook like they cooked

S: Candy Scabs A: No-good Noelle, TCOAAL B: Divilethion, Jack in the Castle C: Better Half I could see moving Divilethion into A-tier. It's so short that it leaves more to be desired, but the CGs are plentiful. It's hard. Candy Scabs, No-good Noelle and TCOAAL all swap places all the time and I have a hard time ranking them. The reason I rate Scabs so highly though is it starts very wholesome and seeing the turn to gruesomeness by Slough's paranoid friend's manipulations is very appealing. I'd probably be put up on a cross for my Better Half ranking, but I am in agreement that it's just not that interesting; the self-cest ending is very memeable, however.

Why does almost all of them have some sort of old man that’s rude and eccentric at first, but turns out to be pretty reasonable and considerate? Like the master in Jack in a castle seems like a crazy weirdo, but ends up being a big help in Sylvester’s good route, pretty much helping save the kingdom. Not to mention he was also fine with Marion giving up on his mission and running back home. He even lets Marion chill with him with hot chocolate. Rando from Divilethion seemed bad at his job, but obviously had a better moral compass and consideration for people’s feelings The snowflake master from No good noelle seemed rude at first but held on to the principals of not freezing anyone without proof that they’re evil, and has hope they can be redeemed. There’s that grandpa from the candy game that was really nice.

I'm glad someone else agrees with me that Better Half wasn't as interesting as the other VNs. I think any game that touches on self-harm, depression and... game overs tends to get inflated numbers from people either resonating with it or believing that it is deep and therefore good. Don't get me wrong, I like that VN, but I don't know if I'll ever return to it like I probably will from time to time with all the rest.

Jack in a castle was the most disappointing one because it's pretty shallow. The lore isn't expanded well enough despite being longer than the other nemlei vns, the romance is paper thin and there's not that much humor. The whole king depression plot sounded interesting but it doesn't get deeper. It doesn't have the edge of the later stuff nor does it go full on fantasy otome game.

Hell no, spare me the Japanese horror, they always manage to add some crazy stuffs even with safe for works or funny ecchi games/anime. And as I am not into Visual Novel games that much, 6 hours of reading seems to be too much, and as I grew up with western cartoons and movies, I don't find much interest in anime or Japanese stuff in general, I only watch them for entertainment mostly and don't wanna dive that deep, maybe now is not the time yet.

​@@ma.2089 ehh i'd have to disagree, it was always in the subtext from the beginning like the little detail of Andrew having his hand in Ashley's belt loop and the way they react to their mom catching them, the way that Ashley makes sure to destroy any relationship Andrew tries to have out of jealousy, Andrew putting his thumb to Ashley's lips, him calling their suicide pact romantic etc, it was always there but people chose not to read deep into it because it could easily be ignored if you don't look too hard. But when you do and combine those small details, them sleeping together isn't that shocking
