I don't understand what everyone's criticizing, I think this version is BRILLIANT. The original was so peppy and upbeat, it detracted from how truly disturbing and creepy the lyrics and message are. When Florence is singing it, that addiction doesn't sound optimistic, it sounds like an addiction.

I don't get people who complain about her vocals like she only uses highnotes all the time. Florence is totally amazing without highnotes. she's able to hit the notes but also just as awesome in quiet songs like this. It's just her voice.

Because people have gotten used to hearing screaming and uncontrolled melisma ALL the time. The old design adage is applicable - "All emphasis is no emphasis". A decade of that and subtlety becomes boring - kind of like the way you slowly lose teh ability to hear soft music after listening to loud music for too long... you just can't hear it so you keep turning it up.

Looked it up out of curiosity after Revlon commercial, thought it would be good based on a whole 2 measures in the commercial. I am sorely disappointed. The breathiness isn't so bad for me, I kind of like that, but this chick is all over the place as far as key. Flat half the time, sharp the other half - was she ever on key?

Jennifer H Hey, I have a music degree, and she is not out of tune. Also nobody says "on key" because it doesn't make any sense. you could say she's not singing diatonic notes (as it they are notes that are outside of the key of the rest of the song) but that's not what she's doing, or you could say that her intonation is off. But there is no such thing as being "on key" or "off key". That's not what a key is.
