Great review!!!! Imo, you were spot on with your assessment of NCAT's band. The auxiliary (and Coldsteel) definitely takes center stage. Would love to see more complex drilling/movement from the band. 💙💛

Most HBCUs drills are not complicated. FAMU is probably the most complicated out of all the HBCUs.

If you like the designs, you would love Texas A&M or Ohio State. NCAT always listen to their audience hence that’s why they chill on the themes. People were always saying NCAT doing too much. Now NCAT is not moving enough 😂. Don’t say one word if you see NCAT drilling up a storm.

FAMU had this big broad fanfare then their sound is lighter/brighter than I anticipated BUT love that their tonals are so audible. 👍🏾

FAMU a show band and more exciting hands down. NCAT give a variety of things on the field but can be a bit boring at times. Two different styles!!!!

People don't seem to notice that NCAT dancers do the same leaps & movements during each show. They just change out themes & costumes. This is pretty much their same leaps and twirls from BOTY show with some minor tweaks like the chairs.

@@bibbiana4Lyfe Well, I’ve noticed for years. I also noticed their twirlers aren’t real baton twirlers, like TxSU twirlers. Just look at them at 20:25 and 21:25, how they tried to throw the baton in the air. It look so fake. They all look like they’re just now learning how to twirl. I mean anybody can see they’re not real baton twirlers, because they never do any actual baton tricks.

I can see where you are coming from about FAMU "cleaning" some things up. Being this is a September show, I haven't watched enough to see if it improved through the season. Well, except for the "SWAC/SMAC" incident. One thing I can say is FAMU is one of very few bands that still play AND dance! They should have gotten points for that LOL. As for NCAT, to me (let me say that again TO ME), they are lazy matching. I understand not ALL bands high step (do 90s), but this is almost like walking. Do they do that so they can play better? Also, it looks to me that they have patterned themsellves more on the DCI side of the house, BUT again, that's MY opinion.

Definitely two different styles. NC A&T does the same drill formations the whole year. Also I can actually hear FAMU, could not really hear NC A&T. To me FAMU is better. If I am correct NC A&T did the same formations at the Honda Battle of The Bands (look at the tape), visuals are good with the flags and dancing girls, but that's it. Marching technique wise when NC A&T decides to "rattle" (320steps a minute ) let me know. They actually walk compared to FAMU popping 90's, I definitely look for snap, and point and drive while marching, I did not see that with NC A&T. They are good for a corp style band, but not what I would expect as a show band like FAMU. I agree with you that FAMU needs to tighten up some things. Dress right dress to begin with, in diagonal lines they need to learn how to look at the person in front of them ( alignment), same thing with circular formations. They also need to learn how to move as one. Too many people adding their own spin on the dance steps, definitely can work on horn swing ( provides the flash). FAMU is also one of the few bands that actually dance and play at the same time, instead of playing an intro and line dancing for the entire dance routine. I give the win to FAMU on this one. However I do enjoy both bands.

FAMU flags are NOT effective. they are not using movements that display the full flag OR that coincide with the music. On that Tamar Braxton ballad we should have seen a broad swath of orange flags moving to highlight the beats in the song.
