I'm happy to be where people say hello to each other, etc... I love it here, it's like C Fl used to be, but much colder in the winter. The other reason I moved here is, so I can actually leave if there is an evacuation. I'm 15 mins from 75 and then another 10 mins to 10, and I'm out of Fl. There are so many people here now that it will be impossible to get out of S Fl. C Fl.

Different weather on the Atlantic side for sure. I could never live in Florida, too hot for too long and the traffic is crazy. We get a couple snowstorms, but no hurricanes, no tornados, rarely a severe thunderstorm, never more than two inches of rain, house is paid for. See you in March.🙂

Old Florida was Great and why we wanted to live herr and could afford to live down here. New Florida Sucks. The weather and no state income tax are the best reasons to stay however property taxes have gotten to high. Some of the florida laws Desantis has out into place helps us want to stay here. A nice 3br house near the gulf coast will cost me around $900k now. I can buy a similar home in Indiana for $150k and my homeowners insurance will be 1/3rd the cost compared to Florida. Retired people can live in the midwest cheap and travel to Asia or South America for the winter and vacation much cheaper than a winter vacation in Florida. People have a lot of options these days !!

Sarasota, Venice, Bradenton, Palmetto, Parrish were very pleasant and delightful towns. Things began to change in the mid to late 90's with new development east of I-75. Super popular Lakewood Ranch outpaced their development plan by 2 decades with single family homes. Now there are endless multi-family apartment projects popping up all over too. But, there have not been any major road infrastructure improvements to handle the massive increase in vehicle traffic and what is yet to come. So the area is mired in Miami like traffic. This definitely has very negatively impacted the quality of life. Plus the home prices have skyrocketed. So yeah, it's not the Florida I knew coming up and definitely not where we plan to spend our retirement regretfully. Shedding a tear for what's been lost!
@roam4fun8535 ай бұрын
All great points. I purchased in Venice a little over 3 yrs ago and since then this small area has transformed significantly. Manasota, Blind Pass, Englewood, and Stump Pass beaches were all easy to visit and park. Now…, you’re lucky to find a parking spot at times! That said, most visiting the beaches are vacationing. So, most of the beach population is transient and not full timers. But, the beautiful thing is…., spring here starts in December and runs through April! You can be outside every day during those very grey and cold months up north. So…, it’s all worth it for me!😀

All the reasons you listed are very real. The changes in lifestyle were so gradual I didn't realize that my errands were planned around time of year and day. Traffic is bad everywhere. It is not the expense of the homes in FLA, they are expensive everywhere near the water. The problem is the taxes and insurance, it puts pressure on home owner fees by increasing the master insurance for the community. Car insurance is very expensive in Florida and property insurance is hard to get. Our Villa near Anna Maria is going on the market this week and we are buying in coastal Delaware. We love it in FL but too expensive. FL Taxes $5500 HOA $835 Ins $3800 Car Ins 750 a month DE Taxes 1700 HOA $180 Ins $1200 Car Ins 250 a month

@bigonprivacy27083 ай бұрын
@@robertkamerlander2018 You're not understanding. The average millage rate is 17 but in many counties in Florida, especially south Florida, it has increased. But what has REALLY increased is the assessed value; literally overnight. The increase cap is 3% per year and that cap has been reached in both 2022 & 2023 and it WILL hit again in 2024. So, because of the private equity firms buying out EVERYTHING and maintaining supply shortages between the increases in assessed value and the increases in the cap we are well over 10% increases in the last 2 years. Your property in Florida REALLY is not worth more as many properties are still for sale not selling. People are literally giving back their homes.

This is the best state. No nonsense covid policies, restriction of social media for minors, respected rights for everyone not just the extreme left, no state tax, business friendly, protection against creditors, we are not a sanctuary state, population diversity, we have beautiful beaches, continued growth and job opportunities.

@@SA-hz1rsWhat is that 500K number based on? You have to understand that most so-called journalists are homosexuals that hate DeSantis so they try to downgrade Florida any chance they get.

This story is everywhere.. nationwide!! Name a place and you will find a large population that thought the grass was greener in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, Texas, Carolinas, Georgia, or Tennessee as a start .go to Florida and find the place flooded w people who think,act,talk and spend money like the place they came from.. there is no such place!! Ask anyone from Denver, Austin or Nashville!! Florida is not laid back because it was everyone's goal to make the entire state look like a rap video shot in Miami!! And all that..less government is great sounds great until the government is planning for traffic, flooding, insurance crisis, wildfires and skyrocketing taxes and crumbling infrastructure as everyone from New York and Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Jersey trips over themselves to get to the rare bagel place!! Florida is an absolute disaster..all the chill, redneck outdoors stuff is gone top to bottom, the government is even allowing the Keys and the Everglades to be over developmed. Governor who is against jobs, education, tourism and his own economy!! And a guy who is single handledly trying to kill Florida farming and ranching!! Get out or don't go..
