Update: Colonel Gene S. Spaulding, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, released the following statement: “The Florida Highway Patrol is committed to public safety and troopers must balance the need to quickly intercept unsafe drivers while using due care to conduct traffic enforcement activities. In this instance, FHP immediately reviewed the incident and assigned additional training to the responding trooper [Bryan Zegers] on May 1, 2018, to improve overall public safety.”

Speeds may vary, but any officer enforcing speed limit laws usually has to speed to catch up to the offending vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The faster the offender is going, the faster the officer must go to be able to get within range to signal the driver to stop. @blessedcurse69, You use best judgement. If somebody is steadly driving at a speed or manner that isn't a hazard to traffic, you should let them go. Solely speeding isn't an immediate hazard depending on the speed even if it's above sped limit. @Paul Cahill, Ammo doesn't explode and shoot like they do in the movies when caught on fire. There is no pressure for the rounds to make them lethal.

Yeah, 15 over become 20 over that become 30 over, etc... People think if they get away with something they can test the limits even further. With that said, he never should have chased him at that speed! People also should have pulled over but the lack of respect people have for law enforcement anymore they just don't give a shit and cause more problems. If you look at the big picture everyone was at fault and people really need to also remember to pull to the right, not the left. The entire thing was a mess!

He couldn't keep his cool enough to remove the locking pin on his fire extinguisher, how is he supposed to make cool headed decisions about guns and others lives? He cannot properly decide how fast he should NOT travel but he has a gun, how sad. Thats what we get for militarizing our police who are supposed to "Protect and Serve", not hunt and chase like predators for the sake of speeding fines. I just see this as symptomatic of larger issues with all our police forces.

So the cop wanted to pull this person for going 90 and here he is driving over 140 mph and driving in the shoulder at that speeds..... smh 🤦🏻♂️ Updated Comment For those who are saying “He is a trained officer and he can break the law to catch someone for speeding”..... a well trained officer would rather keep the public safe rather then putting their life’s in danger and specially his. What he should of done was called it in on the radio for the next unit near by the area the vehicle was traveling. That said the public isn’t trained and his lucky no one moved to his side on the shoulder causing an accident.
