While on vacation with Kate at Disney, Matt met up with three brothers that offered for us to come by and look around. Matt gives us a little look around the shop and does some digging in the "spare parts building". Keith even took Matt for a spin in his T-bucket! After digging, Matt and Kate headed to the Ford Barn for lunch since it was only a few exits away! Next stop is Walmart for some budget packing supplies to get the parts ready for the flight home. There was even enough time to visit the famous Don Garlit's Museum, where Matt died and went to Flathead heaven. We hope you enjoy this impromptu video, and comment below if you would like to see more!!!

Hey Matt. I went to an event in NZ last week. A guy I know showed up in a Model A tourer rat rod thing with a flathead v8. It had a twin carb manifold made of wood!! He was saying a guy in Auckland used to make them for race engines back in the day. One or two ended up Stateside, apparently.

Haha, I did the same side trip (2X lol) to Garlits' museum when the family went on vacation to visit the mouse. I was there in 88 or 89 shortly after he opened and again in late 90's. the engine room was not opened yet but you could peek in and see all the goodies. My family and I went to see the mouse, but I spent a day with the Swamp Rat...

We went on a big East Coast road trip a couple of years ago- I happen to find out that Hershey fall meet was going on that week and we detoured to spend half a day there. Of course you were within 10 miles of my house, hope you enjoyed Fords garage. The burgers and loaded pulled pork nachos are our favorites. Tampa used to be big in drag / track racing - very few old school speed shops left. Garlits' daughters used to cruise Tampa streets in a sleeper corvette and have the best time dusting the locals when no one knew who they were with a killer built motor Hope you enjoyed your trip to Florida

The TSA are a pain. I bought a few vw parts (2 heads and a manifold and a distributor and coil) back home to New Zealand from Cali in 2015. The TSA guy knew nothing about cars. In the xray/scan you could see the electronic distributor, coil and wires. It was all on then. I just knew he was thinking BOMB. It took three of them to work out what an ignition coil was, an as for the distributor. LOL I walked through the xray and got the full pat down. He says "i'm going to touch your XXX with the back of my hand during the pat down. I said "don't enjoy it too much, I won't" He didn't like that. LOL Then i had the charge cable for the phone in one of my pockets. LOL

Matt, & viewers, here’s a ‘secret’ I discovered when it comes to shipping stuff home, especially big, bulky stuff (a car fender for example): send it by Greyhound Bus! It is incredibly cheap! Package can be up to about refrigerator box size and up to 100lbs I think.
@IronTrapGarage
@IronTrapGarage 5 жыл бұрын
I used to use them years ago and found out that when they misplace something they totally fuck you over. Cost me almost $1k all set and done. Won’t use them again I’d rather leave the stuff sit and ship a pallet freight. Just my experience though! -Matt/ITG
@mattkaustickomments
@mattkaustickomments 5 жыл бұрын
IronTrap Garage oh man, sorry that happened to you! I’ve had good luck so far, but none of the stuff I’ve shipped has been that valuable. The biggest thing I sent was the front fender off a ‘69 Cougar. Box was as big as a phone booth and cost under $50 to ship iirc...This was at least 10 years ago and I think it was about $1.00 per pound to make it from the Southeast to Bangor, Maine with no problem. Took less than a week too, I was really surprised.

24:46. Can u explain how that exhaust system worked??? How odd... also what is that big dual carb manifold with the quarter-round ends at 26:45??

Here is the info for that intake manifold at 26:45. Remember Big Daddy loved the Hemi ! bangshift.com/bangshift1320/chrysler-hemi-rat-roaster-intake614999/ As for 24:46 this was a one off idea to make the exhaust flow better on a Flathead V8. Please read the article, the engine is pictured in it. www.midstateantiquestockcarclub.com/flat_heads9.html Also some people reversed the exhaust side with the intake. It was called a reverse flow intake on various brands of engines.

Richard Ferrara, awesome, thanks for the info and links!! Accordingly the monster intake is an Edelbrock “Rat Roaster” available to racers through Direct Connection. I was really curious about the baffling inside and the link shows a pic - really cool design!
