With winter temps finally settling in, it shifts the species in closer to the islands. One big benefit is that the fish you would usually find at the edge of the reef and beyond, will move in close to the patch reefs which are a mere couple of miles from shore. This makes it especially beneficial when the wind picks up and getting offshore is not possible.

You lucky duck! The Keys are hot. Catch and release - that's the go. Keep what you can eat that day (the best flavor) and let the others live to fight another day. An empty freezer is a good excuse to go fishing.

I use to live on 82nd & ocean ,wished we had kayaks back then the late mid 60s thru 80s was a great time use to spearfish & fish all over miss the area very much wanted to be a guide but got married had kids end of my plans you just never know how life will go I now live in to by Smokey mountians we use to come down every year up until my dad died he & my family are in the entrance wall at pine key cemetery ocean side god bless like your videos great place fished Marques,Bimini,pacific light off Elliot key Long key Everglades ,flamingo, ten thousand islands,Sebastian inlet, so,so many places I got to enjoy great times lord willing I’d love to get back to the keys during winter time here .if it’s Gods will maybe I’ll get to relive good old days I have a 20’ SeaCraft center console I’m restoring to fish thegulfstream for wahoos & dolphin,cuberas & big grouper at night time using lobster

I have eaten grouper as well as their north Atlantic cousin the black sea bass, and they are some of the tastiest fish that swim. But they have declined so, so, so much, and almost all of the main gamefish species of this family in the western Atlantic are vulnerable or threatened with extinction. I think over the next few years, anglers are going to have to make these fish a very occasional treat and resolve to turn them loose otherwise, or they are going to need some serious conservation efforts to keep these magnificent species and fantastic gamefish in the seas for generations to come.
