Exactly. And he didn't get all limp-wristed and fade the throttles too much, either. It really helped that his boat had enough length not to be shorter than the crest-to-crest frequency through the rough patch right at the mouth of the inlet, though, to be honest.

I hope you are both under 15 years old. If not, you are learning WAY too late in life that being good at one thing, does not make you good at another. A gifted software dev starts at about 250k. @@eriklarson9137 No need for junior put-downs. I'm old enough to know my limitations and aptitudes, as should anyone pushing off in waters like that. Just like the people you know who have money enough. For the record, I have never owned a boat, but have worked a total of over 10 years on skiffs, tugs, and fishing vessels from 30 - 140'. Regardless of life skills and accomplishments, we were rescuing the same stupid type of 'captain' almost every time our day was cut short. No grasp of their situation until it's almost too late (and on two occasions it was too late). Income level is arbitrary with people like that because they don't actually understand risk. I still think fortune and stupidity meet at the dock way too often.

Some shouldn't even own a boat but nature will decide for them. The guy at 3:00 is a experienced boat handler. You can tell he's done that a few times. He rides the wave right in. The key is to not fall off the top of the wave! I did that once in a waverunner in the jetties and fell about 30 feet down front the top of the wave during hurricane Ivan. I was lucky to survive but got one hell of a story out of it. Never do that again.

2:50 Key Largo skipper didn't seem to have much situational awareness and failed to see the sea conditions in the inlet. He was able to power out of the yaw with good reflexes but he never looked back at the crashing wave coming at him. It is still best to ride the back of a wave rather than find yourself surfing uncontrollably down the front of one as the wave or swell trough passes underneath, stern to bow. Keep your head on a swivel, control your course and speed with constant adjustments. It takes two hands to drive a boat thru the inlet and one is not for your beer. Wait 'til docklines are secured.

So I've been following for about six months and finally decided to comment. I am SO glad I sold my boat 30 years ago. At that time the ass-hats that called themselves captains understood the "rules of the road" to mean if they piloted a bigger boat that meant they got the right of way. Back then ship-shape meant nothing, lines scattered about docks and the aft decks and bow, no proper docking skills or understanding of how to tie up ones boat whether on a fixed or floating dock. What's a spring line??? No idea to coil their lines - running with fendaires hanging from every single cleat and bow rail available. Yep, more money than brains. If it wasn't for gps none of them could find their way to home port because they can't read a chart, no one takes a CG Aux or PS course anymore - nope, just go to the local boat monger and purchase yourself a big ass go-fast and hit the water! good times. Love the channel, about .5% of these "skippers" know what they're doing. Come out of Haulover on a bow-rider loaded with bikinis and cocktails taking selfies when all of them are just a rogue wave away from disaster. Gotta love it.
@jasonmoyer9492
@jasonmoyer9492 2 жыл бұрын
I don't even think they are a Rogue wave away from disaster. Luck is shining on most of them. So many boats have all the weight in the bow on a boat with a low freeboard and they have little or no trim. Often times some of the boats are going to slow and are taking water over the bow. People that are new to boating should go to the CG school like u said. I grew up on the central east coast of Florida and been on the water 40 years. Be it surfing or boating and worked as a merchant marine. Some of these videos I'm nervous for the boaters because I can see what's going to happen at some point when luck runs out

Mystery boat number one looked like a Skater to me, of course I'm not up on pickle-fork boats, I prefer something a bit bigger, like a Feadship or a Lurssen.
