Greetings from Ohio where we are currently in a heat wave with nearly 100 degree temps this coming week! I love watching your videos. Unfortunately its not warm enough here for a long enough time to grow most of these gorgeous plants, but I like living vicariously thru you all! lol

We are in a heat wave down here too (and all the rain south Florida just got just missed us, so kind of a drought as well). We are originally from north Georgia- we enjoy growing all of these tropicals for sure! Thanks for watching!

I did not know about the saw palmetto. I didn't even realize they have berries. Now I need to take a trip to our back 5 to see if we have any.

I totally look forward to your late spring and early fall food forest tours! And yes, every gardener has home projects that have been untouched for years.

That variegated buttercup plant is a real beauty! Variegation in plants is just so cool. Your garden is magnificent, I dream of having a tropical garden- I grew up in australia where many tropical garden plants thrive- now I’m up near the arctic circle so I miss that heat and beautiful vegetation a lot! Thanks for sharing and I always look forward to a new episode of plant pirates! 😊

You are the first person I’ve known to have successfully grown dragonfruit in Tennessee! That’s amazing! They grow so well in pots so I can see how it would work-do you get the vines to fruit too?

@@IslandsnHighlands My son built me two wooden 'cages', and in the winter we wheel them in, but he's done some amazing time lapse videos of them blooming at night. We get 4-5 fruits......so not a ton, but it's a thrill. We have a bud on one already this year. We have some very humid and hot summers now in East TN, but we still have spurts of super cold in the winter.

That's so awesome! We will have to check out the time lapse videos your son has made! We are pretty close to you up in Georgia! Maybe we should give it a try up here. It would certainly be a thrill to grow any dragon fruit anywhere, but super special in Tennessee! We still have yet gotten blooms on our dragonfruit we have growing in Florida. I would love to build some structures there also. Thanks for the inspiration :-)

Good evening plant pirates! I have recently been watching your plant pirate episodes on KZbin and I am blown away by what you find down in Florida in the landscape waste! I was wondering if you guys would be willing to sell a few cuttings? I know You mentioned your son was selling at a market, but unfortunately I am not in Florida so I would happily pay shipping. I am really looking for variegated song of India and plumeria which I cannot find up here even in stores. I am off to watch more plant pirate episodes and dream of my own endless cutting supply.

Good morning! It is always amazing to see what we can collect in the rubbish bins in Florida! We actually have a nursery license but we don’t ship plants at this time…I wish we could help you out! There are rules on shipping plants to certain states and we need to figure out all the rules first. I wish you luck finding the plants you are hunting for! Thanks for watching!

Do you have a recipe with instructions on how to use beauty berry to make bug repellent spray. Native Central Floridian myself. I have several of the beauty berry plants on pur 10 acres. Would love another recipe for more natural bug spray for myself & 4 horses hubby & I have.

Do you have a loquat(japanese plum) tree? If so, please share any info you have on it. Can it be rooted? If so, how? Will it grow from the fruit seeds? If so, what is the growth time from seed to fruit bearing tree? I also luve in Central Florida, between Tamoa & Orlando. The loquat grows well, at least it did in my old neighborhood. The tree I have now has grown very slowly since we moved to a different county 5 years ago.

Let me ask you something… I have several banana plants in my yard which have about eight pups on them each. I was trying to get them for a friend and found that I couldn’t break off any of the root ball. Is this normal and will it still grow with no root on it
@IslandsnHighlands
@IslandsnHighlands 15 күн бұрын
You will need a little bit of the root system for them to survive. Place a full size shovel between the main plant and the pup you want to remove (making sure the shovel is sitting snug against the mother plant). Step down on it briskly to try to sheer off the pup and a bit of the root system / corm. You dont need to get lots of roots / corm, but you'll need some of it... Good luck!

Also we try to keep the mother plant to pups ratio at about 1 to 3...
