A man in my neighborhood was mauled to death just last month by a pit bull on his morning walk. The police found the dogs' owner & gave him a summons to appear in court. He should be locked up for falling to contain his dangerous animal & may not even show up for court. My condolences to the families of the victims.

But as a cyclist, I can attest to the inordinate amount of dog owners who raise their dogs to be aggressive and roam free. Post office needs to protect its workers ! Giving postal workers mace is not good enough! If there are dogs on the loose then the mail doesn’t get distributed period! The supervisor should frequently survey and observe routes to make sure they are safe! Poor lady just trying to do her job.

This is not the post office responsibility, this is the negligence of the dog owners and its community. If a postal worker deems a location unsafe they can take you off their route for things like not keeping your walkway free from snow/ice, or dangerous animals or threats being made to them. But it is the police and animal control's job to maintain order of dangerous animals and people don't like it when it is enforced until something like happens.

Had them all my life and the most illegal thing I've done is Jay walk. They're working breed dogs with a high protective instinct just like German Shepards (which are much bigger and usually more aggressive). Also in training dogs to do livestock and personal protection I've been bit by most breeds and bully breeds don't bite as hard as Shepard breeds, they slam into you like a mastiff does though.

I was just telling my daughter 2 weeks ago that I would never deliver anything to a home if they let their let their dogs our to disturb and bark at me if I worked for the post office. Letting dogs lose to attack anyone a crime and many people get away with it. I get angry when I see videos of post office and delivery workers getting chased emotionally attacked and sometimes physically too. Those people letting their dogs lose should go to the post office and pick up their mail instead after their dogs are lose in the yard and no one should go in, they should start picking up their Mail, that should be law

Every day my kids stay home alone for few hours and I let my pitbull roam backyard. She can't get loose, but she does barks and growls aggressively on everything and anybody who gets close to that property line. Mailbox is in front of the driveway so there's no need for mailman to get nowhere near that entrance door or my gate. There's three very large signs saying that dangerous dog is guarding property and that if you decide to enter property it's at your own risk. I am perfectly fine with picking up my mail at the post office.....my packages usually get delivered by the mailbox.....Good and well behaved guard dog is best home protection.

They dig and dig to get out and we don't want holes in our back yard plus around the fence. 2 We're not ready financially to not only feed and groom our dog but we also cant secure a dog in as it should be so it don't get loose. There are two important reasons why a dog shouldn't get loose. 1 when they're little people try to steal them. 2 when they're big they can attack people and regardless you should be responsible for any consequences after that dog or dogs are let loose. Dogs are big responsiblity and making sure your dog is secure and they can't get out should happen. I really don't want to get a deadly dog for that reason because others lives are more important than those dogs. I rather secure my house myself, make good neighbours and take care of each other. People shouldn't get dogs and not think of things and consequences and other people's lives when it comes to deadly dogs.

Unfortunately mail carriers are not allowed to carry on the job but they are pressured to deliver --do or die. Mostly they are not allowed to protect themselves the employer has a different priority and the laws tend to protect animals over people. This will probably cause such a public outcry that people will be stirred to make a change followed by animal rights activists multiple hissy fits to protect poor little doggies followed by return to current policy. My thought for Putnam county (I live here--mail carrier for 30 years) is we need laws and law enforcement officer empowered to protect abused animals-- what goes on here with dog-fighting, starving farm animals, As a separate issue owners of aggressive dogs should be legally held responsible for what their dogs do--everything from community service to jail time.

Not a route to put a new employee on. Someone must have come across these dogs before this fatal incident. She was close to retirement age and was killed, horrific & sad. Owner of the property & his dogs needs to be held accountable. RIP Pamela, god bless. Prayers out to the family.

As a mail carrier, this infuriates me it's understandable to be negligent to a small dog like a chihuahua but to have German shepherds, Great Danes, and Pitt bulls, etc... There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't have them locked up or chained up. You spend so much money on a dog then you can spend some to have it inside your property only and not loose in the streets.

I'm an animal lover, but those dogs need to be put down and the owners need to be in prison. What's more, the family should sue the dog owners and take their house and everything they own. I'm convinced that it's more than simple negligence, and that the dogs were abused and trained to be vicious.

This is a terrible tragedy, this is what happens with unresponsible owners and people who neglect dogs in a pen all day every day. They trace back to their wild roots and become feral and aggressive and will not think twice about venting their frustration out by attacking anything that moves. We need more animal cruelty laws put in place to prevent such an awful thing from happening again, that poor lady. I am so sorry for her and her family, my condolences out for everybody. May Pamela Rest In Peace and hopefully be in heaven now :]
